Does anyone know the best type of oil and filter to use for a ZXR400?

Yep. Genuine Kawasaki filter.

I'd just use some decent oil around £25 for 4l and a normal £5 non OE filter. Just change the filter every oil change instead of every other oil change.

Do the filters have a particular size or code?

Bike shop should know.
I use Hein Gericke as when you buy Motul oil you get a free oil and air filter (dont bother about the air filter myself!)
And my ZXR400 ran fine on it
