Strange one really being such a new bike. Must be down to the oil or a poor machined part. To be pitted already is odd.

What oil have you been useing ??

Mine has done over 17000 miles now so i guess mine is due too. Done my own servicing so far but after the pain of a job to do plugs i think i may book mine in for the clearences to be checked and adjusted.

Its been serviced IAW the service schedule.......and the reccomended oil too....... so as you say, it maybe down to a poor machined part(s)....but all i know is that Honda better pay for it :!:

Fingers crossed for you mate.

The only other thing really that would cause it is as its being at the top of the engine,
Loads and loads of very short journeys and reving too hard when cold. As it takes a while for oil to reach top of engine and fully protect and lubricate the cam. But oil nowadays is pretty good to over come this and you would have to do this excessivley

Start pre writing your letter to Honda. Good luck buddy

It a Qc problem Jay, Ducati had the same problem with their followers on the 916 and 996, The followers would loose the hard casing, it was not unusual to have all eight replaced at £100 each.

Unfortunately for Honda cam's, cam followers, and cam-chain tensioners have all been achille's heels of old

Part of the problem with modern bikes is the cams are much smaller to save weight, the profiles & timing are more aggressive to make more power, and the engines rev much, much higher, so inevitabley contact points such as lobes and followers are under much higher stress than ever before

Spot on and this i can see becoming more of a prob with bikes trying to advance to thier racing sisters giving riders a closer experience to those like Toseland etc ride on the track. The problem then is thier bikes are stripped prob after each race where ours need to have some long life day in day riding issues.

I know KTM's have the same probs being so competion based and mataniece costs can run very high for all day on the road use.

I guess its the price we pay to be a wannabe

Oh and i was sober when i wrote this
