any vw tdi owners on here?
if so, what sort of mpg do you reckon I should be getting? even on a run my "new" company golf tdi (05, 65k miles) seems to barely be doing 100 miles to a tenner of diesel, and round town 80-90 miles is about the limit - it's no better than my old 15-year-old non-tdi turbo diesel. am I just expecting a bit much or something?

My wifes Galaxy (110Tdi) does high 30's / low 40's A friends 130PD Alhambra betters that by about 5mpg.
The folks who run Passats here at work get high 40's to low 50's, but as they don't pay the bill, don't worry too much with the right foot ......
With a lot of modern Diesels, they are tuned for performance and thus suffer at the fuel pumps - especially compared to a non-turbo car. I bet your speed/accleration pattern has changed with the newer car - drive it the same as your old one and see if it changes

having now worked it out to about 42mpg round town and 50mpg on a run I guess it's not too bad - true what you said though moose - although I saw 55+ mpg in my old Seat, it wasn't happy cruising much over 80, and when i was getting the best mileage out of it I was cruising at 65-70 - I was doing *cough* at least 70 in the golf all the way when I calculated mpg on a motorway run. the old lead foot probably does tend to come out a bit more in this one as it accelerates quite rapidly so probably explains why it doesnt seem as economical - guess I'll just have to take it easy with the right foot if I want it to be more frugal

I drive a td5 (discovery.) I tend to get around 40-50 miles to a £10. That is around low 20s on average. On a run on the motorway i can get around 60miles to £10, around 30mpg.
Pretty shocking I know but a lot better than the petrol land rovers! The land rover does weigh nearly 3 tonnes and still hits over a ton on private roads.
