SV650s --- HELP
Hello,
Can anyone think of what could be causing this trouble with my SV650s (2000) W reg
Back fireing
Pulling back when in 2nd though to 4th gear
no pulling power off the line
burning smell / over heating
it has had a new clutch, sparks and oild change in the last 2 and a bit months

Check the air filter and box have been put back on properly after the work, if you got a leak, it'll run lean as stated above

Im not saying that men are better than women at all. I just wanted to make the point that on most bikes most problems are generally not overly hard to fix and as long as your careful then it should be fine. And with a little help from your friends eg on here you can generally avoid an expensive repair bill with labour being rather expensive these day's.

take a spark plug out, check if it's white, crusty and burnt looking. If so the guys above are right and you are running lean. if so, you will kill your top end so stop using it and get it seen to.
if it's losing/using water, or the oil looks all gummy or like a white mush then blimey could be right re a head gasket, though you'd possibly expect oily smoke or steam in your exhaust too
If not, check for things like kinked fuel lines, blocked fuel filters that could be causing starvation.
the girls/boys argument just doesn't work as our brains are clearly totally different - if they were the same, blokes would stop to ask for directions when lost, and go to the toilet in twos and threes; and girls wouldnt get so arsey about the toilet seat being left up.....

From the day the engine was invented it has hardly changed at all other to make it run more efficiently and more reliable. Probs like blown head gaskets had the some effect to its running back then as it does nowadays.
Hits and tips past down from generation to generation still apply. Well nearly but the basics are still there.
The only big prob we are all having now and i do mean BIG and i am sure everyone will agree is

Oh and for the record i know a couple great female mechanics from my days on the spanners. Ugly mind but great with a spanner

well took the bike down my local garage friday
he Put it down to the ELECTRONICS
played about with it and it seams to be ok at the moment
luckliy I know my local garage staff well and they did not charge me a thing !!!
however It did cost me as I brought a exhust (blue flame £50 not £250 odd as marked up) service with a smile

and there u have it, the uneducated question, but the real question is, would u understand the answer????
where as fixing the problem is the ultimate goal for the person whos problem it is and the person/people involved in fixing it. its not the entire reason for fixing it.
where as men are no longer alowed to go hunting swamp pigs and sabre tooth tigers (unless u count saturday night in Roccoco's) we still have the genetic make-up that requires us to succeed where others cannot.
in this case the time honoured tradition of hanging around with mates and bull$hitting about near misses, track speeds (blimey) and memories of 2 strokes whilst pooling together a collective knowledge of bikes that spans many many many decades but actually amounts to about the same in content as a sunday supplement from the News of the World is something that we all need.
on a few occasions on this site there have been 'mechanic days' or 'get me track ready' days that have been well attended and enjoyed by all, regardless of problem rectification.
if it does come down to it, of course the bike will go to a pro to be fixed, but if it can be fixed by 'THE A TEAM' and only takes a couple of evenings and a saturday afternoon instead of 45 mins in a business workshop - WHO CARES !!??!!
PART OF BEING ON THIS SITE IS THAT PEOPLE HELP EACH OTHER OUT - THATS WHY ITS SUCH A POPULAR SITE.

Off topic here but Track speeds as you put it (a get at me). Pal. After listening to Lerol after last years Llandow he remembers recording a speed of over a 100 mph if i remember right. Now not taking nothing away from Leroy he was of course on his 400. Which i know is quicker through the tighter section but at the end of the straight he will be lacking top end. I said i saw 145 mph a couple years back. So do you now feel this is impossible. Like i said you get a good run out that bottom corner and jobs a goodin
Oh and Mechanics days are great and educational but don't trust noone to torque up your wheels. Someone not mentioning any names but someone on here left my front wheel nut finger tight only
