Speed Cameras inaccurate with Motorcycles

Post by F650GS »

I recently got prosecuted for doing 49mph ina 40mph zone only I KNOW I wasn't speeding.

After some research I found that the mobile LTi20 series camera which caught me are inaccurate with motorcycles (basically they need a flat surface bigger than a number plate under typical useage conditions).

search laser+speed+camera+not+test+motorcycles

I found a solution in a plate blocker that only works from road side angles and overheads and in not detectable close up or head on. Mine cost over $100 to import from the US but they are sometimes on eBay.

Its one solution.

Blair refused a petition simply and fairly asking the Home Office to test the LTi20 against motorcycles. Currenbtly it is not tested on these so obviously the camera would fail with bikes. Why not allow this testing? because there would be a huge refund campain going back maybe 2 decades.

ebay search number plate speed camera

I just paid the £60 as its cheaper than building a defence in court (several thousand pounds) and who is to say all my evidence wont be ignored without professional testing of the camera with motorbikes? The manufacturer in the UK wont even release a camera to anyone except the police. Didn't they even re-wite the law to fit in with the camera's quirks?

Anyone else got a better solution?

the model u quote lti 20-20 is known to be inaccurate on bikes.
in a test in MCN a motorcycle was stationary on it's sidestand and a car was driven past at 40mph and the gun was aimed at the numberplate of the bike and it still picked up the speed of 40mph on a parked bike.
it is just a modern form of highway robbery

Hello All

I am Dave. I taught myself to ride by buying an XS250 and riding it home wheelie-ing most of the way having only ever ridden pillion before. I also had some advanced lessons riding with a flat tyre. I passed my test during the first year that they introduced an off-road part. To pass this I had to break the steering limiter on my yoke so that I could do the figure or 8 ride [on sucha big! bike]. NextI was asked to stop inside a box. The box was too big. I thought this was a trick so I asked for a mark to stop on. After the instructor got me to emergency stop from 30mph a couple of times & I had landed on my mark both times he let me off the rest of the test which he said couldn't really be done on a 250 sized machine.

I have been a freelance programmer for 18 years and now I am on a Journey to the East.

This is my first BMW. I thought I'd get something more durable. However, I have had more problems with the BMW than I ever had with Yamaha or Honda. Its not the engine, it everything else. I know its Italian really but still.

I have a clean licence and have just been robbed doing 49 in a 40mph zone only I wasn't doing more than 43mph. I dont speed unless my number plate if 'fogged'.

Will that do as an introduction?

Thing is they now that it's easier for people to pay the fine and take the points so they know they can get away with it. It is theft I think. Like I've said before if we all went to court as is our right they'll be backed up for 20 years.

Luckyly I haven't been done yet but with crap camaras it's only a matter of time. If I see any hand held ones I always crawl past.

The only people that seem to come out on top is the government and the insurance companies.

Oh and while we're on it what happened to our most basic right INOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY. By Taking that away they're braking the British Constitutuion (yes it does exsist) which not even the Queen can do.

We are being robbed, and arguing it only gets you deeper in the sheeeeit.

I know someone that argueed his case and ended up with double the points and a much bigger fine.

Its now easier to take it on the chin and mutter "robbing b'stards" as you recieve your penalty.

We haven't got a written constitution however, innocent until proven guilty was enshrined in Habeus Corpus (probably spelt it wrong) which the barons forced King John to sign in the 12th century I think. Blair has overturned this in selected enacted legislation, mostly aimed at the motorist. He preferred the continental model which is based on Roman law. This states you are guilty until you prove yourself innocent.

Still, if you reduce the vehicles on the road whilst at the same time generating revenue and making the crime stats look good you can spin the PR to great effect and use the wedge on pet projects like IVF for lesbians etc.

Welcome to New Labours police state!

Stalin or Mr. Bean, take your pick.
