xs650 chop project continued

Been really lazy with this and haven't really touched it in the last 6 months, but just started getting round to doing a bit more on my XS. John T at Newton Motor Cycles is machining up some spacers to get the back wheel sat central, and the sprockets aligned properly but heres a couple of quick pics of the bike mocked up at the weekend. I'm hoping to get it all finished in time for the show at Newton Abbot racecourse later this year but not holidng my breath...

cheers time is always the biggest problem - it's really a case of fitting it in round all the other jobs I've got to do on the flat/camper/other bikes - just having to try to make the time as and when I can really. determined to get it sorted sooner rather than later now though

Glad your going for the sprung seat though, those hardtails would break my back if i went over a speed hump

definitely, a friend had a hardtailed bandit with an unsprung seat and I saw how he was walking after a 5 mile run across Dartmoor, so definitely want something to cushion the ride a bit. Also really fits in well with the kind of retro bobber look I want to achieve. hopefully it will end up being the antithesis of all these OCC style unrideable custom billet barges that you see at all the shows and the Paignton bike nights these days

Ah the good old days of building a bike in the warm of your front room. I had a GS1000 behind the sofa for a year or so when i was single and used the spare room as a spray booth but it all had to go when the girlfriend of the time moved in, she wasn't happy about the overspray on the walls where i sprayed the frame. Some people just don't appreciate a modern classic, still i ditched her a few months later and moved the GS back in

nice looking prospective going on there..will be really interested to see it done, and thats a defo on a sprung seat,, never been a fan of hard tails meself.. maybe if I ever get my chop project off the ground..i'll be at newton abbbott too..lol..
