engine paint ideas?
any ideas boy's
thoes gits at bmw put some kind of crappy powder coat on the engines of the 1150s and it seems to come off the cyl heads after a few years.
im looking for a semi gloss silver paint to go on the heads that can take the heat and an easy way of removing all the old paint (i know it goes soft and strechy when baking hot) even in all thoes fiddly bits in the air cooling fins.
would be good if i can get it done without taking them off!

Umm sandblast or acid dipping will be the only way to get powder coating off. and pj1 engine paint in silver will give you the desired finish.

use a 3m abrasive wheel to strip the block if you don't have access to blasting gear, or dont want to strip it all down. its like a scotchbrite pad on a drill arbour - about 6 quid in b and q. found sperex engine enamel pretty good too - used it on my calipers and even seems to resist brake fluid pretty well.

Both methods of removal work depending on budget, but I second the use of PJ1 engine/case paint ..... excellent product
Oh, CMS sell it by the way

well in spite of my sons advice i reckon blasting will be a long job on powdercoating. I have used paint stripper to get it off a surface of an engine casing, nothing special just ordinary paint stripper, comes off nicely , also most blasters will not look at a complete engine,, and if they say yes bring it in we will do it you could end with a right mess, In this months classic motorcycle mechanics there is and article about Redditch shot blasters they have done several complete motors with no problems, but you will need to contact them for advice before you do anything,

I seem to remember with blasting it can lead to all sorts of problems if you use sand as it gets in everywhere, there was a company up wakefield way a couple of years ago that had a way of sealing the engine so it didnt get in cylinders but they charged about £400 for a full engine............

Nitromors the paint off. Worked a treat for me. Just brush it on, leave it for a couple minutes and brush and wipe off.
