Recommend Tyres
Hi all,
Got my bike back from its service on Monday, need to get a new tyre in the very near future. Bike is not infront of me at the moment so not entirely sure of the make/model/size.
Any recommendations?
Cheers all,

Re: Recommend Tyres
Depends what you're using it for to be honest mate. If you're
Using them everyday and mile chomping use the Bridgestone BT021, they're what I use and last ages and grip really well.
fast road and track use try the Michellin Pilot Powers, which I was really impressed with recently or Metzeler Rennsport (i'm using rennsports for Pembrey and Llandow) but watch out for the rennsports when they're cold or it's wet.
For a general use I'd go for Bridgestone BT014 but Pirelli Diablos are good and turn in very well but don't last too long/square off easily due to the profile in my experience.
sadly I can't comment on Avons or Continentals as I've never used them, but apparently the Avon supersports are pretty good.

Re: Recommend Tyres
ive heard good reviews about the metzeler roadtec's too, apparently good for mileage and wet weather and also heat up fairly quick
the monkey bike of love!
Re: Recommend Tyres
what bike is it and are you replacing one or the set - if your only replacing one match it to the tyre thats already on it.

Re: Recommend Tyres
avon viper extreme is a good tyre but it depends on your bike and how you ride

Re: Recommend Tyres
I have metzeler roadtec z6 on my bike. They are the one's recommended for the sv650s and they seem to work well for me. I haven't tried anything else though.
Blue Sv650s Curvey - Now unrestricted but starting to find the suspension a problem.
Next bike: CBR600RR eventually.

After saying that though i'm through these D208's & will be going to BT021's, because of the dual compound i might be able to cover a few more miles.

Re: Recommend Tyres
Just changed the rear BT021 on mine after 4000 miles with another one of the same as the front is still fine. The centre had squared off from riding up and down the A30 to work through winter, They grip well enough in the wet cos its was never bent over that far due to no proper bends on that road.
Keep seeing reviews for Maxxis sportmaxx which claim that they warm up quicker and grip more in the wet and dry so may think about changing to somting different next time.

Re: Recommend Tyres
no worries johnbob
i had some on my cbr6rr and they were awful, rode from home to exeter about 85miles and they werent even warm and it was very spirited riding to get there. had absolutely no confidence in them what so ever and wouldnt consider putting dunlop road tyres on my bike, theyre slicks are a different story though

Re: Recommend Tyres
This will make you laugh... the state of my dunlop roadsmart (out and out dual compound touring tyre) after Llandow:

They were ok, but I wouldn't recommend them for the track. Maybe it was just the winding up that Jason did (before he gave me a perfectly good set to put on but I didn't
) but they didn't give me huge confidence on that day.
However, for wet weather and normal road riding they are excellent. They've probably covered nearly 2k miles in that photo and as you can see the centre section has loads left. You can see where the hard compound ends and the 'soft' starts if you look carefully.

Got to admit you have done well on them. Must be because you are always BLOATED and taking it steadyleatherpatches wrote:This will make you laugh... the state of my dunlop roadsmart (out and out dual compound touring tyre) after Llandow:

Sorry mate couldn't resist
Dunlop 208's a deffo no no from me. Never again scary as and no feeling.
Michy 2cts for me on the road. Quick warm up and grippy wet or dry and have lasted me well this last set. Got to admit they don't like alot of motorway riding though and when they start to square off they will then very quickly.
Not a super soft fast wearing tyre but a grippy soft tyre for the road with a bit of duribillty thrown in me thinks. And not had one let go on me yet. High side that is
