Chain & Sprockets

Post by Jaye »

Hi all, just looking for a bit of advice. I'm looking to replace my chain and sprockets as they are a bit worn now and just wanted some advice really. I've never had to do it before and wanted to know what the best sort of chain to have - Heavy Duty, X-ring, O-ring and recommendations on the best sort of kit to get EK, Renthal etc. Would be grateful for any advice you can send my way!

All depends on what you can afford and what you want from the bike.

Renthals are pricey but worth it your into thrashing the bike and wheeling everywhere.

Less expensive chains stretch more quickly then the more expensive ones.

What do you use your bike for and how do you ride it ??

Oh and what bike is it for again ??

I normally order a Gold X-Ring from Busters. Comes to about £90 for both chain and sprockets. Its always a good make like EK, Renthal etc.

I always go for AFAM heavy durty gold X-Ring. X rings inhibit wear better because of the x structure resisting pulling and squashing forces better... just ask any engineer.

Thanks for ALL your replies - luckily I have a sense of humour!! The kits for a CBR 400 NC29. I'm doing 20 odd miles a day, four days a week so she's getting good usage, probably best to stick to the best stuff so it lasts a bit longer.

Just done mine, DID gold heavy duty x-ring chain and renthal sprockets. We'll worth the 10 quid extra over the O-ring
