Leathers advice

I could do with a set of leathers (I currently wear Halvarsons textiles) I'm not likely to be doing a track day anytime soon so I'm thinking jacket that zips to trousers. What I'm asking is: 1) Do you have to spend a fortune to get reasonable quality and a good level of protection? 2) Any to stay away from? bad experiences? And 3) Recommendations, gear you've been pleased with/saved yer bacon

I think you pretty much get what you pay for with leathers. However there are some good deals to be had second hand on leathers that were originally pretty expensive.

I brought RST and think they are pretty good for £300, I think if I could afford for expensive ones I would buy them

I bought my son RST leathers with his first bike and they have lasted well for him and the lack of care and maintenance he gives them and i bought leather trousers for me and a textile jacket bith RST and they have been fine with no broken zips or unstitched seams and they have a little fabric bit downstairs that keeps me nads cool in traffic when my trumpet starts chucking out enough heat to melt steel.......

i wear dainese stuff but it is a bit pricey.

one to avoid at all cost is a brand called AKITO...........very nasty stuff

frank thomas, avoid it at all costs, proper pee poor kit,made in india on the cheap and it shows when you test them.

ive never had a problem with my dainese or alpinestars 2 peices, demon tweeks have some good offers on at the moment.

i always feel that with riding gear you get what you pay for

Happy with my 180 quid wolf suit off ebay. Only thing is the jacket is a bit to small, but the trousers are a bit to big so it evens out. Seems good quality, looking generally on ebay they are quite expensive.

I have dainese 2 piece touring leathers that currently do not completely match but both black. They are comfortable and the jacket has a full size g2 back protector and feels really secure.

I tried a few leathers on and found dainese to be tight (they are meant to be to prevent excessive blood loss) and comfortable but they have no knee sliders and black/silver leathers don't match the bike. They set me back £400 but were both in an offer in winter at different times.

I'll second Kelly on the RST stuff - I'm happy with my trousers and gloves

What I would say is if you spend a bit more, decent quality does give good value in the long run - I paid £250 for a Weisse leather jacket 18 or 19 years ago, and countless thousands of miles later it's still good, just lacking in armour compared to todays stuff

Look at the clearance/bargain sections of sites like J&S or Cissbury leathers ...... you sometimes get cracking good deals on end of line/old stock stuff

They have lots of very good second hand kit and some new at very good prices.

Dont know what reation this will get,but my Hien Greicke 2 piece ones(non race ones, only chance of me doing knee down is in a crash) cost just over £300 and they feel fine. They have a garantee for i think 2 years so i guess if the zips bust I take them back.

I know someone on here works there but i dont, so its not plug for any shop. Its just my set of leathers have been fine.

i've got RST and i cant complain, i've lived in my jacket for 3 years, its getting a litle worn but conisdering the amount of use its had its bullet proof.

I think buying second hand is fine, just get em dry cleaned when you get em

ive got a 2 piece dainese suit,fits lovely and s really comfortable,theonly problem i have with them (dont know if its just me?) but it seems the armour around the shins is pretty big and its a pain getting my boots round them,even when i adjust my sidi's to there maximum size ive still busted one of the zips!
