Would any body be interested in a regular, say an evening once a month, SWB Pub/ cafe meet for those of us in Cornwall? I know there's a general bike meet at Hayle usually Tues eves, but I'm never sure if and when its on or who goes? If there is already a meet that is organised then sorry I wasn't aware and can i come !
So if you're interested, got any ideas of a meet place?
I'll offer up, either Smokey Joe's Cafe off the A30 after Redruth in between Wheal Rose and Blackwater. Or The Old Ale House in Truro.
And of course if any one is visiting from up country it would be cool for them to come along!
What do you reckon?

Cool looks like we might have something started here !
Right let me know what works best, evening wise for most people and give us some meet place suggestions. Whatever everyone prefers, we could either have a regular meet point or have several to cater for where people live close to and rotate to suit, thoughts?
I'd be up for a meet later this month when we get something sorted !

tbh it would be a bit better if you could find somewhere a bit further up if it is gonig to be a week night?? although Wheal Rose wouldn't be too bad on the weekends for me?

It's been tried before (by myself included) but there never seems to be a 'committed' bike riding community in Cornwall. I'm not knocking you in your efforts but already your local meet is being moved 25miles away and it'll end up being a hassle for you to attend your own meeting especially if others don't/can't travel to meet you. Personally I'd think twice about doing a 50mile round trip just for a pint of lemonade - would probably prefer to keep riding, do a big loop & have a can when I get home.
There have been meets at Smokey Joes before, they were pretty good when they were informal but the whole thing became a club then it got official and people fell out because of 'rules' etc.
I honestly don't know how the meet at Hayle has remained so popular - perhaps it's the informal nature of it - whilst there are regulars, most people I know will drop by there 3 or 4 times a year.
Good luck with what ever you decide, I'll try & support from time to time but what with work commitments, home requirements and not to mention existing bike club (Pendennis) functions I cannot guarantee being at 'x' place at 'x' time every week - I don't imagine I'm the only one in this situ.
Again, I'm not knocking your efforts and would love to be proved wrong but over the years I've seen informal meets come & go and they never seem to get the same sort of attendance you get at say Cap'n Jaspers. It would be far easier for me to say yeah I'll be there & not turn up but sorry I'm being honest.
Probably best to put a post up here (and maybe firstandlastmcc site) that you are meeting at say Fox & Hounds Scorrier at 7pm next Thursday, go there with a mate, hang around for an hour, if no one turns up you can just go for a ride, if people turn up then there's your meet. Do it on a random basis & see what happens.
when my bike is back on the road ill be up for anything i dont think it has to be a regular thing but we need more people in cornwall getting together off this site for rideouts, the same was a rideout gets posted every week for the exeter area
but arranging a evening meeting somewhere will give everyone thats interested a chance to meet and swap details of other like minders so when i decide on a thursday/friday that the weather will be good on the weekend i have people to contact who will come out to play
roads get a bit boring when your alone no matter how good they are
Fair point Graham, I do agree it's not always easy to make and commit to a regular meet, I'v got three young kids, a regular-ish jam thing with a mate and a job that can be stressful and late finishing at times, that was why I suggested a once a month thing that was at everyones convenience and maybe rotate a meet point so there isn't one person who has to always do the 50 mile round trip. If we get something going though it would be nice to put some faces to names/ avatars .
As for meet points I'm happy to travel a bit further up the county ( I used to regularly travel to St. Dennis for my old band) but obviously with rising fuel costs etc. thats why i suggested the above movable meet. Also happy to go to a cafe cos the price of pub's is ridiculous at the mo.
Anyway I'll try and come up with a date for the first meet soon and lets see what happens !

im not sure how hayles stayed so popular,no-one speaks to anyone or made to feel welcome if your a "outsider" the only good thing if you can call it that is the mcdonalds and at least somewhere to head too.
the trouble with a cornwall rideout is that us cornish peeps are so far spread out unlike the exeter/honiton lot which does make it difficult for a rideout. there used to be a lot more from plymouth on here but not sure where theyve all gone ?
personally i dont enjoy big rideouts hence why i dont advertise when im going out on my bike as i'm happier just riding in a group of 5 or 6 max,any more than that and it gets too chaotic for my liking. did go on a GJ rideout back in feb that was fun but also chaotic as we lost one guy two or three times on the rideout as his pace was a lot slower than the majority,we left plymouth and were supposed to meet up in looe and he ended up at trago .
if its a small group i might be intersted in a ride or two and see how it goes
badger & deej, all valid points. Had a spin out with dayz a few weeks back but even though we live in the same town I've only seen him twice more & both times I was in my car. Did follow you, bedger, into the village a while back - can't remember if I was on the bike or in the car.
Good comment about the 'frosty welcome' at McDs Hayle, luckily I know quite a few who go but there's always a 'superiority' atmosphere there. Fair comment too about small numbers on rideouts - perhaps it's an idea to meet after several smaller groups have been for their ride.
I was going to suggest a meet next thursday but the 7 day forecast is still not looking good (2mm of rain next Thurs morning).
Perhaps people from this way can meet at Four Cross Petrol Station and, as long as there's not too many, ride up to Fraddam/Indian Queens etc and meet anyone coming down.
Sounds good to me, I'll keep an eye on the weather and when it looks promising, I put up an open invite, lets see who's free and who wants to do what. At the mo would prefer an evening blast with a coffee/ lemonade break as weekends are pretty hectic day time ( 3 kids and full time job, weekends tend to have a must do list that take a week!)
Did think of the pub at Holywell bay, kinda mid way ish and big car park, plus the back roads into Newquay area are nice and windey from any direction!
Same for any one else, if you see an open window whack up a post and i'll see if i'm free! This crap weather can't last...can it?
