I've tried it a few times, and normally it goes like so
apply some pressure to the lever blip the throttle and bmmmmf no change!

When it doesn't shift it often really totally throws me as i expect it to change and it doesn't, i've found it will work if i'm really opening the 7 up i.e up to 10k plus but anything less it doesn't want to know.

Is that normal?

Good way to knacker bearings in the box unless you're 'weighting' the lever & blipping the throttle simutaneously.

I've always used clutchless shifting up through the box when drag racing or speedhillclimbing and when required nailling it in a straightish line or even to keep it smooth with a passenger on board but the revs need to be high to keep a certain amount of crank momentum.

Not a good idea doing it going down the box unless you like locking the rear wheel, feeding the clutch out changing down helps particularly in the wet or when carrying a passenger. Also at times you'll want to go down a couple of gears - try doing that with no clutch without locking the rear wheel.

There's a couple of other techniques which are not mechanically sensitive:

Hold throttle wide open, slightly whip the clutch in and bang up another gear without shutting throttle at all!!! I've seen this work well in the dry (good way to generate wheel spin in the wet) but clutch plates end up being a 'consumable item' - good technique for hire-cars.

Another is to weight the gear lever as you reach the red-line, keep the throttle wide open and when you hit the rev-limiter the sparks will cut and the next gear bangs in, works like a quickshifter - this does actually work but valve gear becomes a consumable!!!!!!! (does not work when there's no limiter as valvebounce reverse loads the transmission).

If you're practicing these this weekend I accept no responsibility for mechanical or personal damage.
