dayz wrote:as far as i am aware, insuracne companies dont ask for proof of restriction, nor does it affect your insurance premium, i asked them when i was insuring my bike and many said it will still be insured as a 600 and no discount given. The only time it would come into action is under police inspection for a motoring incident then if your motorcycle does not conform to your license restrictions = bad trouble.

with this in mind i never fitted a restricter to my zx6r and just tried my hardest to keep it out of the hands of the police by driving sensibly. ofcourse i only had about 9 months on my restriction as i am aware that the restriction ends after 2 years OR you turn 21, which i now am so gambled i could keep it shiny side up for those 9 months. If your on a full 2 year restriction, might be a bit bigger gamble, and probably not worth it

nope they dont ask when taking your money but they do ask when your bike gets stolen or damaged. no certificate = no payout so its worth getting the kit just for the certificate.
also how old are you,if your over 21 its cheaper and less hassle to do your full test :P

ISorry to be boring but......It is a pain having them restricted but I would advise it, I did my test when I was 18 and was obviously restricted for two years, I had a zxr 400 so it wasn't too bad, if you were planning to take them out - and I did for a time, I would only say what someone said to me - think about if you had an accident or hit someone (god forbid) but if you were found not to have the restricters in you would be in a lot of trouble.....

I have an sv650s. I removed the restrictors recently as my 2 years of riding have passed. I could get an indicated 115mph. 0-70mph was quick. Anything more and it started to struggle.

My brothers rvf400 rockets all the way from 0 to 110mph restricted with no hestiation. It is much much quicker restricted. It didn't actually feel restricted as in no let down in perfomance until 110mph when it stops accelerating.

I would get an sv650s. I am not biased, there are lots around to suit any budget from £1000 to £4000. My restrictors are for sale for £20 in the for sale section.

All tested on private grounds.
Blue Sv650s Curvey - Now unrestricted but starting to find the suspension a problem.
Next bike: CBR600RR eventually.

Sounds like its not actually 33BHP restricted but 112MPH Jap restricted (which is full power upto that speed)

I will ask him later about that. He bought it from bridge and they restricted it. However, it could be the case as it felt much more potent and it would out accelerate the sv650s significantly when it hit the 1st powerband.

There shouldn't be any 'powerband' as such. My restricted 400 used to pull nicely upto 8k, felt a little bit of power then the restrictions would 'cut in' and then all the way to redline was flat as pancake. If its pulling away ALOT from your SV650 and accelerates like a tramp to a free meal after 8-9k rpm then deffo not 33BHP.

I just went on the (guzzers) rvf400. It is restricted it slowly accelerates after 8k. It is definately more fun and quicker restricted.
