i know i have a 400 for sale but i have to agree with funky dont go from a 50 to a 600 espically as its winter aswell soon.

its not the worst idea ever, if you pass your test and are sensible, nothing wrong with getting a thou.

However

fast and loud

isnt really the right attitude, probably.

but hey, you can kill yourself on a 50 easily enough, so got with whatever you can afford. Just be careful...and get some insurance quotes

He didnt mention anything about wanting to ride like a tw@t and to be honest going from a learner bike,50 or 125,to a 'big' bike is always gonna be a big step,but im sure he has enough common sense to take it easy

Why not? I went from a 50 that barely did 45 to a restricted divvy, fair enough its just over half the power of a sports 6, But I really don't regret it, awesome first big bike.
For the first couple of weeks even at 33bhp it scared me scenseless, but I took it easy at first and as I got used to it de restricted it to the beastly 60bhp and had no problems, apart from the crashing part
Which all seem to be at slowish speeds
