Daytona 600 2004- any good?

Im looking for my first big bike, considering kawasaki,suzuki,honda, and now Triumph as well
I had a look on all of them, and my favourite is gsxr600 k6, but quite expensive and insurance is not cheap,
so i have been forced to look elsewhere and found daytona to be a good fit, still 670 3rd party and theft a year but cheaper than the rest. Is here anyone who drove it, or has it? I checked all the review but its mainly about track stuff etc, what im looking for is to find out, is
reliability
mpg ( i know it depends on the driver but for a normal journey 50/50 town/motorway.
and if its really good to drive or if it has any niggles.

Im just afraid to spend money or something i will regret. ( btw i had a chance to sit on it, but not to ride it, so so far i like it )

Right where do I start.

I've had mine from new. It does have some downsides (what bike doesn't) but a lot of pluses.

Good stuff
Very comfy for rider and pillion. Not to squashed up but still sporty position.
Very good looking bike
Handling - put Pilot Power 2CTs on
Doesn't hang about
Seat cowl comes with it
Lights are ace
Space under seat (like the TARDIS)

Bad stuff (I'll be honest)
Spongy fron brake (can be cured just by pushing pistons back in)
No holes for padock bobbins
Corrosion (get it with all Triumphs but I used to be a bike valeter so mines ok)
Getting extras

Ive got some extras on mine including
undertray
rim tape
yellow headlight covers
r&g crash bungs
micron end can

I personally would say, go for a bike you can afford fully comp as you'll probably have an accident being your first big bike and third party fire and theft does not pay you any money in the event of a lone accident on your part.

well all fully comp insurances are quite expensive for me all sport 600cc are 1300+ and third party are around 600 to 750. Only bike i can afford the comp. insurance for is one of the old ones ( ....-2000) and im afraid they will fall apart and i will have lot of troubles with meintanance, im just not really that into repairing bikes. Its not going to kill me to pay 1300 for insurance but i think its just too much it will be the 1/3 of the bike price i think i will prefer to risk it and if i will bin it, i hope nothing will happen to me. So you guys, everybody has fully comp. insurance? If it will be like 800 pounds i will pay it but only for a bike that i really want (k6 gsxr600) and that one is atm 1395 e-bike insurance so i can dream on

How old are you?

I satrted riding a 50 at 16. I passd my test at 17 but didn't go too a 600 staright away. I went from 125 to2 50 to 400 to 500 to a 600 at the age of 22. It did me the world of good because I got used to the power of one bike before progressing to the other.

I personally think the jump from doing your test to getting on a 600 is to big a jump, no matter what age.

Only problem is there isn't a lot of older 250s about now so why not get an ER5, GPZ500S, GS500E type thing first. You can always sell it if you find them easy but might give you that experience that may make you a better rider. The insurance will be loads better to.

If you've got the money all the Jap companies have started making sporty 250s again, about time

Have a look at a thundercat, very comfy, not too bad on the insurance, and i've had no problems with mine but if you do have any the parts are very easy to find (was in production for 8 years without a single change) and it's pretty easy to work on.

i know of a very nice conditioned low mileage 650 daytona for sale probably £3500!

i had a look on 650 daytona but insurance is even more expensive. And i m looking to spend maximum of 3000 for bike leaving my enough money for insurance and repair of few bits if needed. I know that the best is to choose the smaller bike ( well less powerfull) but as i mentioned before had a ride on 650s and didnt like it very much, i had a little ( very little ride like for 5 minutes) on ZX6r 2001 and find it quite good in low revs. My yzfr125 boored me after 2 months and i didnt enjoyed riding it anymore. I have done only 900 miles on it and i needed something that can manage the motorway trips ( thats 2 of the reasons why im going for a DAS).

BTW one really silly question,
I know that you can restrict the bike to 33 bhp, but is there any way how to restricted it to lets say around 70-80bhp?

You say a gsxr k6 is to expensive for you, why not go for a gsxr k4, they're about £3000 and being a bit older the insurance shouldn't be too bad. http://www.parkers.co.uk/motorbikes/use ... 3&plate=75 a price guide says it, but dealers round here are asking a bit much i think.

i was thinking about that one as well but i prefer the looks of daytona tbh, i think in the end it will just depend on what bargain i will be able to get from
