i think i've cured it.. for now. i chucked a new spark pulg at it today and had a fiddle with the mixture taps through the carb and it seems to stay running when it's warmed up now. still having trouble starting it. especially without a steep hill!! although i think its running too rich now going by the ammount of blue cloud i leave behind.. therefore the plug will soon clog up again! :x :? but its enough to get me round fo nowww  also, i had a word with my instructor today about it and he also mentioned carb icing.. so i expect this is part of the problemm

Is the engine air cooled or water cooled?
If its air its likely to be similar to a cg lump id guess unless you give us the bike name and model.
if its watercooled, its likely to have been like my bike having coolant running through part of the carb, thus making carb icing almost impossible :?:

Carb icing gets so overused its silly, if you belive it is, next fillup use Super unleaded, from other forums bikes are noticably alot better on the carb icing front when using it, or you could buy the Silkolene FST additive. at 13 pound a bottle.

If changing the plug has largely sorted the issue with running, I'd suggest the other issue's are probably more to do with your fiddling and trying to fix a problem that didn't exist in the first place

Try putting all the carb settings back to standard (you will, of course, have made a note of how many times you turned each screw, in whatever direction, from where it was originally   ) and try again.

You can tell how a bike (especially a two stroke) is running from it's plug ..... a nice "rich tea" colour is ideal, white is lean, black rich, wet is generally too much oil. Have a look in the general section of a halfords manual (virtually any one will do, they use pretty much the page layout in all their manuals  )
Of all the things I have ever lost, I miss my mind the most .....
