As far as I knew by these jackets were still being fully developed and not on sale en-mass. If I could afford one I would have one to be honest. I wouldn't make them compulsory though as it's just too expensive.

It is a bit like fishermen and life jackets. The only way people are going to wear them in any numbers is if they are able to make them reasonably stylish, comfortable, not too bulky and convenient to hook up. If they manage that then I expect most of us will get them as and when we need to replace our existing kit with no need for compulsion.
However, this government has a track record when it comes to stick and carrot, they don't seem to understand what the carrot is for!

From what I can see, like airbags in cars. Once their triggered it not just a case of folding it all up ready for the next time. It's time for a new jacket Another dumb ass idea by someone thats no doubt never been on a bike.

Also how many of those 561 deaths would have been prevented by the jackets. they have just taken the total figure not seporated it into causes of death.

The reason fishermen don't like wearing life jackets is cos they can be dangerous. It's something that stuff can get caught on and pull them overboard. They can also prevent movement.

As for the bike jackets I think they're a good idea. Did you notice the collar inflates to stop your head whipping back. Thing is though like said already, what happens if you forget to unplug it when you get off. We're all used to just getting off.

Looks seem to be a big issue here.

How much of your motorcyling experience is about looks as apposed to saftey and anything else? If this jacket was supplied at a subsidised price as part of a goverment initiative would you go for for it? I would.

The main issue would be blowing up like Tinky Winky when you get off the bike in your local filling station and forgeting to unclip.

The concept is excellent but I think it needs refinement although I can't help feeling that it won't be long before this system is built into every biking jacket or set of leathers.

I think it will be a very long time before anything like this becomes the norm, apart from the fact everyone will have to throw away several hundred quids worth of Leather jackets as most of us seem to like them a nice snug fit, therefore you fall off and what happens, cockall because your jacket is so tight the airbag cant inflate, secondly how many 16 year old herberts (and their parents) on their first moped will be able to afford a couple of hundred quid for one of these and they won't be much cheaper than that on top of the bike,cbt,insurance,helmet etc etc , the coppers won't have time to pull every biker and moped rider just to see if he's wearing his inflatable and last but not least, I wouldnt wear one just because its one more thing in my life that i have no control over and its starting to piss me off the number of decisions being made for me by these pricks in authority that are absolutely total testicles, only they can't see this and think they are doing a good job...............

I have three different bike jackets for different weather conditions.One for extreme wet/cold conditions,one for hot summer conditions & one for anything inbetween.If they think i`m gonna buy three air bag replacements at £600 each they can phuck right off .Interfering b`stards!!

Don`t like the idea of hooking up/unhooking to activate/deactivate either.Too much room for pricely errors if you can`t deflate & re use.

Might buy one if was considerably cheaper though... But i think thats unlikely.

Ideas good but the main flaw is how the jacket attaches to the bike/ activates. It'll be good for racers/ trackdayers but for the average joe using the bike day in day out, constantly attaching/ unattaching the cord it'll be a chore. Then theres the time you forget and just get off..............................BOOM!!
