R1 Advice

To all those that run R1's on this site Si / Bambam etc

I have been offered an '02 R1 which looks clean and has some history for £2700. At first glance it does not look like it has been to the moon and back but I am waiting for confirmation of the mileage.

What are the things I need to be aware of when looking at an R1 of this age?

hi mate i got a 1999 r1 lots of extras on bike no marks very clean 30.000 miles £ 2.4oo my first 1000cc bike i fine it very light to ride easy to handle than bikes before . if that helps

firstly, ignore all hairdresser comments. there is a reason they are so popular.

so long as the engine has had regular oil changes the mileage shouldnt matter, there is a video on you tube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ThO-w9SCM8I abouth this guy who did something like 100,000 miles on his !

check the head bearings -too many wheelies
check the bellypan - too many wheelies
have the brake lines been done? should of by now

i think frag has an '02 r1

check the rear sprocket and tyre, any evidence or being ragged ? if not it was probably bambams

other than that, once the suspension is set up to you, you won't regret it

tottaly agree makes a huge difference althought the suspension might be a bit tired by now

I have, got it at the end of Dec 08, love it to bits, no problems as yet, sounds like a bloody good price for yours

Sounds like a good price for what is a great bike . Ask if the seller will throw in a cut and blow dry

Bloke sold the 02 before I could ride it but I found a very clean standard '00 that I will be picking up this week.

I am looking foward to the next rideout to get you guys tips on how to best look after it. My first mod will be to do something about the huge number plate and holder.
