I do watch it but only for the funny stuff. We're gonna record it this year so we can FF through the rest.

Re: RED NOSE DAY !! - NO WAY
Moosey I know that some of the money stays here but the majority goes to africa. You say about how they need it because of the povity, well yes they do. However if they stopped fighting each other all the time they might be able to support their own. Everytime there's a war we're asked to put our hands in our pockets to feed the african people so their governments can spend the money on arms.
Look at Zimbabue (excuss spelling). They kill all the farmers and now they have no food. Then I see an apeal on the TV.
There are plenty of other countries in the world that need help, not just african ones so why is it not going to any of those.
You are very lucky to have a house, reasnoable job and health. Not all of us have all those things.
I do donate money. When I do donate I give to Great Ormand Street, Cancer Reasarch, Devon Air Ambulance, Children in need and others sometimes. I wish I could give more than I do.
When me and Mel went to London for Lee Evans we were on a train and a homeless bloke who looked like he was in his twentys came into the carrage and asked if people could spare some change so he could get £8 together so he could pay to sleep in a hoslte for the night. That's bad. This was in November. And yes I did give him some.
If you want to give your money to people from other countries then that's up to you, it's your money and we are lucky enough to live in a free country (well reasonably free
). But I am a great believer in cahrity starts at home and that is my choice and I'd rather give to charitys were all the money stays here

Re: RED NOSE DAY !! - NO WAY
Mike, you're right, charity is charity, and it's up to the individual who they care to support
To an extent, I used to share your views. I thought why give to Africa just so they can buy more guns, land-mines, etc.,. Deal with the corrupt governments, then I'll consider giving my money to such places
When Band-Aid first started, raising millions for Ethiopia, the government of that country was actually paying Maggie millions for some Harrier jump-jets
Then I realised ...... just as with most wars in most places ..... it's not the people actually fighting them that start it - in the case of Africa they (the majority) didn't choose their leaders in many of the countries currently suffering bad governments (dictators, miltary leaders, whatever) and generally have no power to get rid of them. Take your example of Zimbabwe - look at the grief they have been through just to get an election, the results of which Mugabe then decides to largley ignore until pressure is increased so he agrees a deal which still leaves him in power
Yes, too much is wasted on fighting. Yes, it would appear there are too many corrupt governments. Yes, our governments should do more to sort out such places but have little interest because their is little of benefit to them to do so. Yes, getting rid of religious dogma to allow contraception and stabilising population growth would be a major step forward.
Does that mean we should consign generations (millions) of kids who didn't actually ask to be born there to such deprivations ..... The population of most African countries didn't actually ask to be stuck with drought, poverty, etc.,
Remember - most of the significant wars have been started by the western world ...... it was Europeans dividing up Africa between themselves, forcing into existance boundaries that never existed, that has created most of the problems that currently exist on that continent today .... Look at most of the trouble spots around the world - western asia, middle east, etc., and you'll find it is generally the western world's history that has caused the problems that exist today either by the forced creation of false boundaries or religious indoctrination .....
Anyway, as I said, you're right - we are still able to enjoy semi-free choice, and thus are able to decide for ourselves to whom we give our money
If we all chose identical causes to support many would not exist. We are in the priveledged position of being able to have different views to both each other and our government.
All I would say is, a bunch of bikers not getting to bask in the glory of their 2 minutes of limelight is a rather poor excuse for not supporting a worthwhile cause

Re: RED NOSE DAY !! - NO WAY
Ye gotta agree with ya moose...compared to what we as bikers spend on parts for our bikes wether they be a everyday mode of transport or just a nice sunny weekend toy we are PRIVELEGED compared to a lot of other parts of the world...what we spend on say a tyre some poor sod don't even make that in a years wages...we have Democracy in this country (granted a bit flawed) but at least we have it and as this forum proves we're pretty much allowed to voice our opinions as and when we want without some twat blowing our brains out...but i think as long as people realise they're in a better position than a lot of other people and they can help in any way they can, then where they donate their money is at least helping someone whether it be at home or abroad...in reality it's a pretty sad state of affairs we live in a world like this in the 21st century but thats politics

Re: RED NOSE DAY !! - NO WAY
posted yesterday by Rick Hulse Chairman of NABD on the NABD forum..... (note "something that happened years ago" and a bit of backpedalling
)
"I just thought I'd better come on here to set the record straight.
I wrote the blog on the NABD's experience with Comic Relief mainly in a bid to stop people asking me to get involved in events raising money for Comic Relief and sending bloody silly red nose related stuff to me on facebook.
It was also meant to let bikers know of the reaction we had from Comic Relief so that they could make a 'personal choice' on whether or not they wished to support it.
I had no intention of starting a witch hunt over something that happened years ago and I also had no intention of starting a lobbying campaign against the BBC. I appreciate the anger that all bikers feel about this sort of discrimination and the good intentions of those who have joined these causes but I fear it may only serve to keep the work of the NABD out of the mainstream media if it is allowed to go too far."
I would say a little more thought on the original article on his part wouldnt have gone a miss...

Re: RED NOSE DAY !! - NO WAY
With what happened with my Biker uncle, I was a bit sad to read their reasoning. To be honest thats all I'm going to say on the matter.
