Surely it's quite simple ... unless you are lucky emough to have the budget to run several bikes, you buy a bike which suits the majority of your riding needs. That means if you want to do something outside your normal riding parameters you have to accept compromises.

For most of my needs a (sort of) sportsbike suits me. I accept that if I want to go away on it that luggae carrying is an issue, as is the 100 mile fuel range, but for the odd once or twice a year it's a concession I'm prepared to live with. If I commuted 100 miles a day rain or shine I'd have a shaft driven bike with good weather protection and live with the compromise of not being able to go mad on the Exeter - Moreton road

Horses for courses ...... you pick what suits you best
Of all the things I have ever lost, I miss my mind the most .....

Handle stressful situations like a dog - If you can't eat it or play with it, pee on it and walk away

Which is what I've been saying all along.

The fact is that the bike that can do it all brilliantly does not exist, although I did hear something interesting from a dealer recently.

Apparently, (but we're some years off it yet), one manufacturer is working on a concept based on a sports bike, which will be convertable.

Meaning that you'll be able to quite easily convert it into a full on tourer by key code engine re-mapping for low down torque over outright power, and adding quick relase bodywork, handlebars and luggage.

Two bikes in one.

Now that really would be interesting.
