The law

Post by GIXXER KID »

hey guys,

got pulled over going through truro yesterday,
was filtering traffic but there was hatchings in the middle of the road

police pulled me and said it was 3 points and a £30 fine and then another £30 fine for my number plate,
then he said he would let me off for the overtaking and just give me the fine for the plate. ideal :)

but i always thought this was completely legal and it was heavy traffic and not solid white lines :?

does anybody know the rules?

cheers

Solid or broken line on hatchings? I think that to the book, hatchings are for emergency use or something like that, I know on the test it was a fail if you went into them.

I guess that if the cop thought you were overtaking dangerously he could have nicked you for dangerous driving. I dont think that overtaking is illegal unless it is on solid white lines or over hashed markings in the road.

As far as i know, you cant overtake or go onto hashed markings unless you are turning right. :(

can filter below 20mph and hatchings are only for emergency use. Depends on the officer what they do. so far I have been lucky. touch wood...

I didnt know there was a limit that you had to keep to for filtering. What about on the motorway?

Or are you just talking about a safe speed for filtering between stationary traffic?

traffic has to be going less than 20 miles an hour. Why would you need to filter between traffic on a motorway unless there was an accident and the traffic was going less than 20mph? That is their reasoning. Unless your definition of filtering is different... I'm meaning going between two lanes of slower traffic. I realise it does make sense because if you hit an car coming across you at above these speeds it is going to hurt if only a little bit and is not really defenseable as you should have the throttle control and patience to cope with it.

Personally, you're probably like me and you go to essex alot so you probably go on the m25/m3 at which point filtering through all the shit traffic is a must at such and such a speed happy play times

I think filtering is down to the copper and how he see's it these days. Along the Torquay road in Newton you see cars doing 30 or 40 mph and bikes overtaking so thats just plain speeding and asking for a pull on the other hand there was a police bike the other day in slow moving traffic sitting near the white line with a string of bikes behind him not daring to go past so he moved over and waved them on, they all went past filtering away quite happily and then he took off and pulled one in as he had filtered over double white lines a big no no, the biker looked a bit annoyed as i went past but i didnt see the copper get his book out so he maybe got a warning........
