Track Day - Kinda

Post by jon_piscitelli »

Local safety scamera people are doing a day on the 16th September @ Castle Combe, cost is £99 for the day starting @ 0745 with full day training concentrating on cornering & braking.

Nothing to do with me personally just found it and booked on as it's a cheap day at the closest track, standard sound checks apply, 105dBA. 3/4 max revs @ 30 cm

Can send then info over that they gave me if any interest, know Combe has a an iffy rep, personally think its just down to the strict noise test, but is v fast and sweeping plus it's subsidised by the government so I like to think of it as a tax refund

Cheers,

Jon

Is that a week day or weekend mate

How much time on track do you get ?

I could be tempted by the extra tuition and a day at the castle

Speaking to the organiser it revolves around workshops concentrating on braking and cornering.

The format is 2 groups, a and b, b group is aimed a the fast group boys with Combe knowledge from the looks of it.

Time on track is the same as a track day as the event is limited to 60 in total although he did re iterate that the process is about building skill so it's not go out and ride as quick as you can day.

To be honest after binning it at Combe / Quary I'm looking forward to getting back into that track in my own time and pace plus I've been thinking about a Californian Super Bike / Ron Haslam type of track based training and am using this to see if its a format I can work with before shelling out the bigger money.

I'm actually paying for two of my senior engineers who also ride to go on it, kind of a thank you for hard work and I can run it through the books as advanced driver/rider training :D

I'll PM you the pdf

Jon - you don't fancy being my boss do you ???

I'll see how the land lies next week after silverstone mate

Ron haslam was fantastic when I did it first,I did it before I did trackdays so learnt a lot from it. Depending on how many days you've done it might be more of a bonus for you to look at what the CSS have to offer, often thought about it but never done it

It's all down to the noise, they're a lot tighter than all other tracks which is why most people dis it, if you have a new a new or repacked can with db killer and slowly bring the revs up you should be ok.

Best to do it slowly and build to the point as if you over cook it they take the highest reading, oh and get the can nice and hot before the test 2!
