crashed

Post by jason »

it finally caught up with me....

and I went down at Rockingham on sat. It was on off wet and dry all day

ironically I wasnt going to go out in the session I crashed and didnt have my gear on (as supercorasas on a wet track arent the best combination), guy next to me in the pits talked me into it and I quickly bunged my gear on at the last moment and went out for a bimble to see if it was ridable....

I was sliding around quite alot, but it kept regripping and as I dont really mind a bit of a slide now and then - in my infinate wisdom I thought "this is fine I can control this"

I very nearly went down going through the chicane in the middle of the oval sections as I crossed the kerbing (bad idea riding over kerbing in the wet obviously) which I gladly didnt because your fair motoring at that point

then was trying to catch the wets fitted bike in front of me when my bike went into a big old slide at the first left heading towards gracelands...I waited for it to regrip but it didnt want to play so I gracefully slid though the corner and across the grass on my backside thinking that I really should get around to buying a back protector. (you can get a fair old distance covered on your back when the grass is wet)

My first ever track crash....oh well ...I was looking for an excuse to buy a new bike anyway

a vid of the only really dry session of the day here if anyones interested...

engine crash bung, swing arm crash bung, and rearsets took all the damage, bike slid on its left and didnt flip over so akra is fine. Track fairing took a hammering, generator cover is ground down other than that its fine.

Just put it back in road trim last night, replaced the generator cover (£105!), crash bungs and footpeg for the VCR's (the great thing about gilles is you can buy the component parts).

and you would never now its bee crashed...completely unmarked. still looks like the 3,500 mile old never dropped bike that it did bedore the weekend. Helped that there was no gravel trap for it to run into.

the tail unit of the track fairing on the other hand looks like someones been at it with a hammer, but then thats what its there for

Gonna take the K7 on a euro trip for three weeks at the end of august then will look at getting a K9 when I return I think.

yeh its fast group..I think people where generally riding slightly more sedate because it kept going wet ..dry....so even though that session was almost full grip I think alot of people maybe had a problem giving it the full whack.

that session in the video was red flagged..thats the restart. In fact I think every single fast group session was red flagged at some point.

yeh It was a good day....the off didnt really bother me like that,if nothing else it was good comedy value and gave people a chance to take the piss out of me in the pub later. (particularly as I went down in the session straight after the "stop crashing you idiots, the recovery fan is running out of fuel" lunchtime debriefing)
