There are many things I would beleive about the police, but lying about the cause of an accident to prosecute a rider is not one of them  I would be writing to the chief constable demanding to hear what disciplinary action is being taken against those concerned.
Of all the things I have ever lost, I miss my mind the most .....

I'm not sure about the whole story, it seems rather deprived of information. But then that's MCN

Yeah, including pertinent facts and evidence can somewhat dilute the shock and hysteria potential of a half baked headline. There was a lot more to the recent stories about ride-out leaders being fined and the guy in Scotland being jailed for 166mph than was actually communicated by MCN - if they told the full story every time of someone trying to be clever or just being a total dick when being dealt with by the police, then they wouldn't get the chance for a hysterical rant.
Propaganda, if done intelligently, can be very effective, but when it's done in a childish and inaccurate manner it loses its power and gives More Crap than News no credit and ultimately does us, the biking community, no favours. If we want to make a credible noise as a persecuted minority, we need to get our facts right in the first place, and it's organisations like MAG and the BMF who'll do the research and make a plausible case on our behalf. MCN represent the worst form of sub-tabloid journalism and try to utilise a rabble-rousing football terrace mentality fed on half-truths, rumours and chinese whispers.
The more perceptive among our readership may have gathered that I don't buy MCN. I consider it a criminal waste of paper and ink...

On this occasion though I'd say if his lawyer made the Police drop all charges then there must be some truth in the story. Unfortunately I've had many varied dealings with the police, some are good guys who use disgression, others are officious little hitlers with power trip issues! But I agree with Moose, hopefully those concerned will be investigated and appropriate action taken.
