Tyres

Post by CvPiper »

Got to put new shoes on the Gixxer, its running a tad slick on the rear ;)

I seriously have no idea on what tyres to buy, whether to go to a tyre place, or order off the internet and get them fitted? If anyone has any suggestions, or links to good offers I would love to know.

The bike will be out in the summer mainly, would like semi decent mileage from them as I will tour europe this year. But sticky too.

I'll be replacing a pair just so they match and I have no weird characteristics.

Taunton would be useful for fitting :)

Thanks

hi fella,
Bridgstone 090's.what size are your tyres?
or pirelli diablos....or corsas.

and if you go to taunton and have them done.... G V bikes near the train station are the best(the shop is behind Ralph Colmans)....should cost about 30 quid fitting.

if you cant find it,can show you as i live about 10 minutes from there.

Its an SRAD 750 isnt it?

Bridgestones work very well on Gixxers I think they are about the best all round tyre, the 010's have been superceeded by 014's

so you might be able to get a good deal on old stock 010's maybe?

Stock rear tyre on the ealier srad 750s is a 190/50 section but a fair few of them end up with 180/55's on to quicken up the steering. Suzook went back to 180's stock in 2000 I think.

I tried both and preffered it with the 190.

jewell- the VFR eats 090's for breakfast anyway so a gixxer750 would destroy them really quickly.

like jason said, Ive got the Bridgestone 010's on my 400 coz I do alot of commuting to work and also go on ride-outs. The 010 is great in the wet and gives a good amount of grip in the dry once they've warmed up. I would say the new 014's would be a good bet too though as they were designed for sports bikes and are meant to have a good milage life.

My Gixer 6 (03) came with Diablo Corsas on as standard.

Had loads of grip, even in the rain.

I'll never change from these as I find them to be superb :)

I think i'll toss up between 014's and Diablo Corsas now, I'll try GV Bikes, used them for the MOT, if they can supply the tyres there too it will be easy :)

If not you can get them cheap on http://www.mandp.co.uk and I'll pop into GV to fit them.

Thanks guys!!

have recently got myself a 98 GSXR750 SRAD.
As I said in a different post Diablo's are good if your expecting to do less than say 4000 miles a yr (ie you only planning on getting tyres changed once a yr)

If you are clocking up more miles, then in the summer months, make the most of the warm weather with BT014's, they take longer to warm up than Diablos but in the summer thats not a problem (would be in the winter though) so stick em on and enjoy the extra grip...

As for Europe though, well I would never fit sports touring tyres on a sports bike, thats just asking for trouble, but least you will have more of an enjoyable ride with the correct tyres :D

I like Prel Diablos, Lasted a good 4,000 miles on my Gixxer750 (About the same as the prev 010's) but the Diablos were cheaper. Felt good in the winter too.

Got to say i've been sticking with Bridgestones and they are all fantastic for grip. I now have 014's on but they haven't lasted that long, i can normally mannage about 4000 out of 010's and 020's. My bike is very heavy and i do tend to ride it hard (quite often with a pillion). My recommendation would be as follows:
BT014's - if you want the best grip, i have found these fantastic all winter, but won'y get them again as they just haven't lasted llong enough.
BT010's - great tyres, not quite as grippy as the 014 but more than good enough and last a dam sight longer.
BT020's - another great tyre, i found these take slightly longer to warm up but offer just as much grip as the 010 when they are warm these also last slightly longer but not much. I had 020s when i toured around europe in sept and would definately get them again for a long tour. (enough grip for knee down with pillion so don't believe any crap people tell you about them being touring tyres).

P.S. Anyone got any suggestions of good tyres to try, i need to start getting some better mileage out of my tyres.
so it turns out.........sometime i do give a f*ck

Prel Diablo's do it for me!!

Briliant confidence building tyres if you get what i mean!!! Was too scared to chuck the CBR around on the 010 and 020 that was fitted when i got it!!

Fitted Diablo's and i feel a lot beter on them now!!

Go to the Ally Pall show this weekend, they have tyre pairs going for £99.
not sure what brands are in that deal tho!!!
