February Track Days

Post by gigrower »

Have just booked a long weekend of Donnington on Thu 24th, Oulton 26th and Rockingham 27th. Is anyone else doing any of these? Really really hoping for good weather..... x_x

PS. Merry Xmas everyone!

Unless you're extremely lucky and manage one of the few dry 5+ degree days, then I reckon the best you can hope for is a warm but wet day. Best get some wets if you havent already.

Sounds like it might be a good idea. Optimism meets pragmatism! Had a tough TD this year trying to keep up with riders on wets in the p******g rain. Sliding all over the place, particularly scary braking and changing down for the slow corners with the back end wandering all over the place. I could really do with another set of wheels. Anyone have a spare set they want to sell that would fit a 97 CBR600F?

Cheers deej. I've managed to pick up a pair in the last month although it's never simple as they needed new cush rubbers, bearings etc etc. Still, got em now and just need to get hold of a set of wets. One thing that concerns me tho is that for the front wheel, you have to take the caliper off to swap the wheel and the bolts are supposed to be replaced each time. I've never worried too much about this, but I have had to replaced the current ones as they were streched and had started to narrow (neck). What's anyone else's experience on this?

Cheers

No not a problem providing you have correct grade bolts.

High tensile and stainless won’t stretch like that in this application. Have had calipers on and off a lot over the years and used the same bolts with no problem and on the endurance race bikes.

Threads in the softer fork leg are more likely to ware slightly eventually, especially if you over tighten.

Myself, my Mrs and a couple of mates are doing Donny on Feb 24th and stuff the rain cos a cold wet td is still better than a good day at work.

If you need wets give Mark a ring at Holbeach tyres http://www.nolimitstrackdays.com/acatalog/Tyres.html and tell him Scott from Sunny Plymouth sent you cos he looks after me and my mates  and he'll fit them at the track for free. :)):

Cheers for the advice all. Been away a bit lately. Did pick up a set of wets a couple of weeks ago and have now finally got a spare set of wheels set up. Had a set BT003RS's fit by Holbeach at a No Limits event last year and was really impressed with them. They're better than I am anyway!! Cool to hear that you're going to be at Donnington Scott. I'll look out for you. What bike are you taking? Last time I was at Donnington (the last track day before it got shut), I managed to highside coming out of the melbourne loop. Broke both the bones on the end of my arm, one in my hand and dislocated my wrist really badly. Will try not to do that again on thursday! Had a look at the long range forecast and it gives dry.. :)): :)): :)): :)): May change tho.

Cheers

Rich

PS - Simon - I'll stick to inters at Llandow. Never ridden in fast group and never been to Llandow before so prob for the best but if you're stuck for spaces and people won't get p*****d off if I'm in the way, I could give it a try.
