Yopu might save a couple of quid on the interweb (though not as much as you think, by the time you add postage sometines), but when you need something quick, or a little bit of extra help, it's very difficult for someone to do that via e-mail or phone.

The trouble is, if everyone buys via the internet, none of us will have local shops to help us when we're stuck. Support local business

I was chatting to Derek the other day, and they're undecided whether they make better money, andhave an easier life, just selling via the internet - and if thats the case, why keep the shop going? It'll be a sad day for local bikers if the shop does shut though - especially with the work friendly opening hours they have at present ^:)^
im with you and i do alot my bike parts shopping from cms, however my mate bought a chain from them and he's done about a 1000 miles and it snapped off! they wont refund it for him or anything! so why would I put myself at the same risk again? would rather buy a proper chain from the internet, at least i will feel more confident when riding lol :) thanks

Yehp - I bought a TVK 520 O ring chain and sprocket set from CMS, close to/just over £100. It was fitted correctly by myself, correct tension, both sprockets fitted and torque loaded with new tab washer and nut on front, saturated in PJ1 chain wax often, all in alignment, good fit, no damage or excessive wear all in accordance with the manufacturer's maintenance manual  . And the clip fitted with the legs opposite to the direction of rotation (correct). Then, under heavy acceleration it went bang, pulled the split link apart and flew up the side of the bike. This was just over a month after fitting. The chain jammed in the front sprocket and snapped the front sprocket clean in half. Luckily it didn't lock/jam the back wheel up. Then spent 2 hours waiting for recovery etc etc..

So I turned up at CMS brandishing the result and the reciept  ...and after explaining the situation, I left the store having been well and truly bent over and taken to brown town, with a brand new set out of my own money again, as I need my bike every day. (Although,CMS did give me £5 off a sprocket for the inconvenience of dicing with death :D )

The chain and fragments of sprocket have been sent back the manufacture for 'analysis' and was told I'd be called in a weeks time..which guess what - no call

I know people are gonna say 'you get what you pay for' etc, but regardless of price, if you have been sold a chain & sprocket kit and told it's correct and certified strength for the bike it is being fitted to, it should not do this. Admittedly, it should stretch, rust/wear alot faster, but no chain should snap like this, aslong as it's well maintained, fitted and the correct chain for the bike. Which was the case.

I've used CMS for about 3 years, spent £100's in there and this is the first thing I've taken back to them.. Rant over.

It seems perfectly reasonable not to sell a spit link by itself for a specific chain as they are all different and it would mean breaking into another pack to get one? Doubt yu can get em seperatley anywhere
Mud monkeying ahaha

Split links are fine if they're fitted correctly. I usually fit them with a blob of silicone on the clip without issues. I'm not surprised that CMS wouldn't sell you a link, why would they? I get a lot of people coming into the workshop asking me to fit parts they've bought on line. I will not fit parts unless I supply them myself, I buy from reputable suppliers who I've dealt with for years. I get the back up I need from them if the parts are faulty, and product liability its traceable and covered should a part fail and cause damage or injury. I've had people turn up with Dynojet kits bought on ebay which have been wrong, there is nothing I can do about that.
If people want to try and save a few quid buying on ebay or wherever that's up to them, but to expect a shop to recitfy any problems that occur after the event ain't gonna happen. Buy from your local shop and they'll support you and help you out if there is a problem, but it online and you're on your own.
