Bandit 600 oil filter problem

Here is where I am so far...

Anybody in the Exmouth area who could possibly remove a thoroughly knackered oil filter for me? Would pay in beer....

Most people post an introduction before wanting something. The link doesn't work. If the filter will not come off then you will need a strap wrench round it to remove it, or if it has crushed right down then you may need to cut the cannister down and get a set of pipe wrenches on the core. You'll need to remove the exhausts to get access to the filter.

I would offer my filter wrench but you haven't introduced yourself or anything.

Sorry guys, blame this one on me !

Shreddingfish is a fellow member on the bandit forum who's been having some horrendous problems getting a oil filter off his Bandit. As he lives in Exmouth I suggested he post a message for help on here as I was sure some members were mechanical masters !

He's getting desperate and is close to taking off the header pipes in order to get the filter moving.

Here's a photo, it appears the previous owner may have put it on a little dry and tight.

Make life easy for yourself and definately take the exhaust off, it should only take a coupole of minutes on a bandit, then as Jam said use a strap wrench to get the leverage, if that doesn't work try a big pipe wrench to get longer leverage or buy one of those filter wreches that is basically shaped like a big filter socket which fits over the filter top and you then use a ratchet to turn it, put a long bar on it and that should shift the bugger. Or again as jam said you'll have to cut it and try and turn the internals to get it off. Use loads of WD40 on the threads before you do anything tho. Gently hitting it with a big hammer as you try and turn it may help shock the threads lose as well.

Treat it like a big nut and you should be alright... :D

Ahh I'm sorry guys, should have introduced myself!

Name's Dan, been riding just over two years, current bike mark 1 bandit 600 :)

I'm too used to posting on banditforum which i've been using for a while..

Luckily it's all okay now, I've managed to get it off. Here's a pic of what the filter looked like after I'd finished with it :P
