Gixxer Re-Style????

Post by badgerKDD »

Ok, after having repaired and sprayed my tank I am now looking at the rest of the tired paintwork and odd scratches. Now the tank is actually the wrong shade of silver so i will be getting some correct paint shortly for that but also to touch up a few bits on the fairing, but I am considering removing all the 90's graphics and making the bike plain silver all over, with some subtle red SRAD era decals instead. Obviously I woulbn't use the actual SRAD graphic but the suzuki logo is the same style as present but the GSXR logo is just in Red outline and looks very smart and subtle.

What do you lot reckon? Am I de-valueing the bike though? The silver and flouro Pink graphics with red wheels are not a classic colour scheme, but also because it is not so common is that worth keeping? I don't really plan on selling the bike, not yet anyway but when I do get a bit to stiff to curl into the ball it requires to ride it( ;) ) and retire to a B12 will i lose re sale, or does no one care cos its not the original oil cooled Gsxr or the Srad, which are the collectable versions?

The graphics are a bit scuffed and scratched and if I removed them and gave the bike a good re spray with just laquer and cut and polish itshould come up nice and tidy, which is what I'd like butI can't decide??? :-\

i know its a personal decision in the end but a few general thoughts might push me one way or the other :-bd

If it is HPI clear I would keep the original paintwork or by spares and spray that.

Badger, at the risk of sounding harsh, at the end of the day it's just an old Gixxer. Unless you intend to keep it until your a hundred ..... sorry scratch that, too soon - another hundred years ( ) it's never going to be a "valuable" bike ... that will be reserved for the slabbies and maybe 1st gen SRAD's

I'd go for the subtle scheme or what funky says - get some cheap alternative plastic and go mad x_x

Right I better say something as this is a proper GSXR! Go with what ever you like, there are bugger all original colour ones out there, mine is and I'm gonna respray the thing white and put Pespi decals on it to look like the 1989 race bikes. If it's for you do it however you like, if you intend on selling it do it in a normal paint colour, whether that's normal colours for the time period or alternative years or even a rep job. Lucky strike is good but everyone does it and it's just not my cup of tea but then I don't like hot drinks so I don't like tea. Do as you want with it, f**k what other people think as unless they own it or ride it, doesn't matter to them.

Thanks for the opinions guys :D

there's loads of paint jobs I considered, even the lucky strike and pepsi options but unfortunately a lack of funds means i have to tidy the bike up at the least outlay possible. 1/2 ltr of colour matched paintplus laquer thinners etc is looking at £60 plus vat so a total respray would be out of my cash league at the mo.

Nick I'll be PM'ing you soon with some questions about carberation stuff but i need to get the bike properly off the road and stripped first, fork seals are first priority, but thats for another day and thread ;)

So watch this space,I reckon I'll go with removing decals and re cut/ buff, pics coming soon :-bd

Well its a nice idea, but I don't think even I could... 'Pull it off' ;) :)) :))

At the moment its all in the planning stage and I'm waiting to hear back from a couple of contacts about some paint prices, so I'll keep you posted about the final decision.
