Heated Grips

Think i am getting frostbitten on my daily commute, time for Heated grips? anyone got them? are they worth the money? any recommendations? can a numpty fit them?

They are very worth it. You won't ever have another bike without them. Ride in winter with them on third of the strength with my everyday leather gloves.
I imagine it gets far colder up in your part of the world.
OXFORD Heated grips are what I have.

i have the tech7 ones. not as good as the oxford ones.

heated grips are a very good piece of kit, just remember to hook them into the ignition system and not to the battery. saves the battery draining after you have parked up and walked away

Oxford heated grips have a power cut out when it drops below a 11 volts to stop them draining batteries should you hook them up to battery and leave them on when the bike isn't
I have the wrap around ones as I tried to keep 2 bikes on the road and swap them between the Bandit and GSXR, I have a metal plate in my hand so when my hand gets cold I'm in alot of pain. Wearing the right gloves helps too but heated grips are very good. Well worth investing in a set as trying to brake in tricky conditions with numb fingers isn't good

Heated Grips??? In Cornwall????? I'v only just decided to put my winter gloves on after my summer gloves drowned on Monday night

I don't have them fitted on any of my bikes... but often wondered about the back of the hands where the wind chill could be a prob, knuckles etc. Do the heated grips really warm up that bit?

Gloves tend to be thicker on the top of the hands. Somehow it doesn't become an issue with me. I ride all winter long and at times get down to -9 degrees celc.

cold hands is a symptom of your core temperature dropping, heated grips is treating the symptom.

treat the cause with a heated jacket and you wont need the heated grips

Well its all down to personal opionons but I had Oxfords latest heated grips on my ZX12 2 years ago, warm as toast when on, very hot indeed but as with any heat source like this its only going to warm what it can get to!!!
I went to portland billnew year, very bloody cold, put on me thermals top and bottom, undercoat and leathers and set off. My body was so warm i had no problems there but my fingers were like icicles!!! inside of hand could feel the heat but not enough to warm the hands up!! the cold around the rest of my gloves was freezing me pinkies stupid. So I turned them off as a waste of time. Tried a few times after but same results.

So i came to the conclusion its pointless trying to warm my whole hand with a small amount of heat which has to penetrate a leather glove to heat up the part of my had which is taking the wind chill!!!!

Ive now decided to think about heated gloves which heat up the WHOLE hand not just the inside of your fingers!!

if i go out and its really cold i put on my snowboarding gloves.

they are toasty, protective, mine are armoured so pretty good for the bike. plus they aren't really thick like leather winter gloves so i still have some dexterity.

Well for this year I'm seriously considering bar muffs, after reading an article in Performance Bikes, they featured a couriers GSXR1000, he used bar muffs and reckoned they are the dogs and don't drain your battery ;)

I know they are considered a bit ' old man on a GS500' but seriously, this guy was the fastest courier around London and if he can get away with it, then fxxk it

I fitted hand guards from a DL650 V Strom on my Bandit 12 to keep the wind off the back of my hands, took them off in spring as well as wrap around grips. Riding a friend's SV650 with heated grips but since buying my Spada Enforcers I've not used them, wear the right kit and hands are fine, but keep the core of your body warm and no problems with cold fingers or toes

Kelly has always had a set of Oxford heated grips. Had them since 2005, been fitted to two different bikes and never failed. They do work well, but work better if you have slightly thinner gloves on because thick ones stop heat getting in aswell!

If I commuted in the winter, I'd deff have a set on mine. Heated grips plus handle bar muffs = toasty hands, you'd never have a issue with that combo.

Fully agree, the muffs are generally sneered at ,but I tell yah, honestly-- 'tis a treat to ride using them, no issues with cold hands,& don't forget,--with cold hands,=less control.
Plus if it rains/sleets,---NO problem..DRY & TOASTY.. ...BETTER THAN ' KIN FREEZING AND TRENDY.

Oh.. yeah. Oxford do them,. only around £30--- an'all..

Couple of years back I took a bit of time out and did some motorcycle couriering, this unfortunately coincided with the winter weather. I decided if I was going to do it I want to make sure I was bloody warm. The kit I bought was great it was just my hands I had a problem with. I tried mitten gloves but still no good, even handle bar muffs. They just make you look like a div and press against the brake lever at higher speeds. In the end I opted for heated gloves. Much better than heated grips, as they heat the back of your hand down to the finger tips. Warm as toast. They have a little quick release connecter to allow you to get off and on the bike.
