Petition to change car test to include m/cycle awareness

Post by AndyW »

PETITION TO CHANGE CAR TEST TO INCLUDE MOTORCYCLE AWARENESS:

Motorcyclists account for 1% of all road traffic in the UK, but shockingly account for 20% of fatalities. [AndyW - in fairness more are attributable to rider error than other road users however....]

What is even scarier is that prospective car drivers can currently pass their test without answering a single motorbike-related question. [.....that just isn't right!]

Bennetts have launched a Government petition to ensure bike-related questions are made compulsory in all UK driving tests.

To have this matter raised in the House of Commons 100,000 signatures are required. We need your help.

Please sign the petition now: http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/26272 and share this link with your family and friends.

Tis a good idea. I can see it including awareness of cyclists, walkers until one day you have Mrs Bucket sitting by your side saying "Watch out for that power station dear". Also, statistically speaking, most motorbike accidents do not involve any other vehicle and are attributed to 'rider error'.

Signed too, took me ages because i just couldnt read those stupid 2 words!
Work mate of mine had awful accident on his bike recently when he was t boned by a car and his leg seriously crushed because the woman in the car was "late going somewhere". He nearly lost his leg and wont be on his feet for up to 18 months. Anyway the point being, when we talked about his accident at work the general opinion of all the none bikers is that we all "come out of nowhere" and it isnt the fault of the car drivers! More awareness of motorcyclists needed for sure!

I think there needs to be cycle awareness as well as bicycle awareness. I don't think most car drivers know exactly how to treat motorcyclists and bicycle riders on the road. And I think many raise the risk of an accident happening because of negligence. I'm all for adding cycle awareness to the car test.

I treat them with the contempt they deserve.
