RoSPA Assessment Ride
I may be mad but I've been persuaded by a mate to look at doing the Advanced Motorcyclist thing. I have an assessment ride with a RoSPA instructor tomorrow morning ... Not sure what to expect but I guess it will be fun

Re: RoSPA Assessment Ride
..and which steed are you taking out of the stable tomorrow then?
Hope it goes well, keep us posted please Dave as I have a friend who has just passed his Advanced (IAM) and it would interesting to compare experiences...
I'll be in Taunton tomorrow too...Smiler and myself are on the Bikesafe workshop

I could take the wife's 620 Monstr but it is SORNed ... so I guess it will be the SuperDuke.
I don know if I'll go through with th test etc. ... I might all be a bit much for me ... but I'll let you know how I get on.
Enjoy your day!

Re: RoSPA Assessment Ride
You too
Sounds like you had a good day!
I did about an hours ride out South through Taunton to Chard and back. I found myself holding my speed back a bit - partly because I was on some unfamiliar roads, partly because i'd forgotten to put my rar plugs in so the bike sounded noisier, and partly because I had this hi-viz jacketed assessor behind me. Still, I was a bit surprised when his main comment was that I could've gone faster!
Other than that he made a few points about which foot I put down when at a standstill (the 'Hendon shuffle'!) and that was it. He said my overtaking was 'progressive and safe' and reckoned I could go for a Gold pass ... so all-in-all I was well pleased
He has offered to take me on as a student so I now need to find the time to do it and get out there for training rides and meet others from the group. Good stuff!

That hi-viz thing, got me too for a while! Takes some getting used to!
As for the feet thing, - SAME
So, are you going to do the RoSPA training now? I take it there are different levels to it then..? (gold pass?)
I reckon we had the perfect day for it, going to get much colder and wetter this week..

Re: RoSPA Assessment Ride
I think I am going to do it if I can find the time. My diary is a bit unpredictable - often not back from work till late and I like to spend as much time as poss with my family at weekends - but the instructor said he can be flexible so fingers crossed.
I gather that there are three levels of pass - bronze, solver and gold - and my assessor said I could expect to get a gold if I just make my riding a bit more systematic. I reckon I will learn some stuff so I'll give it a go

Re: RoSPA Assessment Ride
Mate, you can always borrow mine!
We met very briefly when you were having your debrief with Jim. I can tell you he is one of the best assessors I have ever come across and due to him, my riding has come on bundles. Don't get hung up on grades etc, bottom line is anything you do that makes riding a bike more enjoyable and safer is a plus in my book.
The DSAR group are a really nice bunch of people who don't take themselves too seriously. Whatever
path you decide on, have fun!
