Yamaha R1 (2010) and noise tests

Post by rdoogan »

OK I think my plans for a day at Mallory on Saturday with NoLimits may be an issue. I'll find out on Friday for sure, since that is a 105db day, but the Saturday is a 98db. I spoke to the guy who does the sound testing at CastleCombe and he said he didn't see how any bike could be below 98db !

Now I've found some articles that suggest it is below that, but there is also a sticker on the bike that says 99db at 6250rpm. Hmmmmm.

So question is, has anyone on here gone through a sound check on a 2010 R1, and what level did it push out? This one is in standard kit with the twin exhausts. I know the earlier model with the stubby GP exhaust would often fail a 105db test.

Like I say I'm there on Friday anyway so I'll go through their test and we'll get the answer then.

Castle Combe do their sound checks very differently to everyone else. All other tracks test using the ACU rules which is 5,500 RPM on a 1000cc IL4, the DB meter is at an angle and a certain distance away.

Basically any stock bike will pass EASILY, even bikes with decent full race systems can pass 98db with baffles. Castle Combe is the only place where certain stock bikes will not pass their stupidly strict noise tests.

As has been said, Castle Combe test at 75% of available revs which equates to 11/12000 rpm on a 600,7500/8 on a 1000,where as most other circuits only test at half revs or there abouts.

Nice one guys. I'll post the results after I've been to Mallory on Friday and let you know.

I have a db meter just not sure if it is properly calibrated, but I measured 97db at 8000rpm, so we'll see....

Thanks

My zx7r passed the noise test at Mallory with a full akraprovic system and no baffle. if your running a standard system with baffles you'll have no worries.
