Re: Superbikes! When Britain Ruled The World
Sorry - too much Foggy again, not got anything against him but always felt the sheep followed WSB whilst in the late 80's & early 90's there was much better GP racing - this was still the Rainey, Schwantz, Lawson, Gardner & Doohan era with Mackenzie, Haslam, Rob Mac scoring points.
Also there were other good British riders in WSB - whether regulars or wild cards - Parrish, Dunlop, Marshall, Huwen, Whit, Hislop, Reynolds plus more recent champions Hodgeson & Toseland, some made fleeting appearances on the program but little made of them.
Good but could have covered some more of the others. Off to find my old videos.

And for me the highlight was a very brief appearance and a few rare words from Yer maun , Joey Dunlop
Enjoyed the rest of it though, Foggie was not quite as ME ME as i expected hi to be

Clue is in the title mate. GP racing was far too boring and that's why the masses followed SBK. You don't see stoner and lorenzo bashing elbows and when it does get interesting (a la rossi/stoner incident) then all hell lets loose as said pre madonna's moan calling the riders that actually fight for a race win dangerous. Simoncelli was the only rider that really brought a breath of fresh air to GP.

Re: Superbikes! When Britain Ruled The World
Well I enjoyed it, I actually missed most of the 90's racing scene, due to having a large amount of time with no TV, out of the country and quite frankly out of my mind
not my finest hour believe me
.
I agree there was a period a couple of years ago when MotoGP got processional, but this season has been back to exciting racing, closer times and yes, even fairing bashing!
No offence GP, but did you watch last weekends MotoGP? Moto3 went to the wire right to the line, Moto2 had a photo finish for Redding's 3rd place, Lorenzo got punted off at first corner, pushing Cal off track and he had to come back from the back of the pack (again) and was pushing for the front 3 by the end of the race. Boring?????goatpants wrote: You don't see stoner and lorenzo bashing elbows and when it does get interesting (a la rossi/stoner incident) then all hell lets loose as said pre madonna's moan calling the riders that actually fight for a race win dangerous. Title was when Britain ruled the worl not Foggy, my point was there were many UK riders who did well in the series and that it was a sucessful formula for UK riders both before & after Foggy - I felt these points were missed and I would have loved to have seen more coverage of FZ750s, slabside GSXRs, VF750s and more.goatpants wrote: Clue is in the title mate. People seem to forget that whilst GP went through lower profile years (Roberts, Criville championships etc) the racing was often still good in all classes - remember 95-2000 was when a certain young lad was working his way through 125 & 250. Europe still supported GP, it was just that the UK went Foggy mad, it got embarrassing, bit like recently where Stoner got boo'd at Donington - I'm there for the racing not the silly bickering off track (of which Foggy was one of the worse!).
Any bike sport coverage is good, if you're going to have a title like that then please more UK riders, the Foggy era did get a bit monotonous.

Errrrrrr........... that was supposed to be Moto3 had the photo finish for Kent's 3rd place, and Redding got a podium in Moto2.......... ;)badgerKDD wrote: Moto3 went to the wire right to the line, Moto2 had a photo finish for Redding's 3rd place,
Note to Self...... stick to fart jokes and inuendo at 6 in the morning
Oh and I agree with Graham, would have been nice to spread the recollections around a bit, but TV is more about using the face that sells than 'in depth coverage' of a fairly minority subject , hence Guy Martin is now the go to man for any bike related TV needs.

Re: Superbikes! When Britain Ruled The World
Fact of the matter is that the program was nothing to do with GP's, this what I'm trying to say. Too much foggy? Well, he was the face of of world superbikes in the 90's. There was little interest in Grand Prix as there wasn't much british participation.
Yes I did watch Assen and it was brilliant racing. And what I meant was that in the 90's GP was not very interesting, or not to me anyways. These days it is a lot better but I still think that superbikes offer better value for money.
