1992 zxr 750 j2 water pump question

hi guys i took the water pump off today to see if everything was ok but where the water pump shaft slots into one piece has broken off prob in the past as before i stripped the bike it was in full working order.My question is the black piece that the water pump shaft sits into to make the water pump spin does that move when the engine is running as i tryed to move it by hand and didnt move? Any help would be great

Hi
When the pump is off the bike you should be able to turn it with only a bit of resistance from the seals inside
Take it appart and make sure there is nothing inside jamming it
You will need to replace the shaft and probably the impeller as they are offen pressed onto the shaft
When you refit the new one make sure you align the shaft where it goes into the bike (normally driven off the back of the oil pump)

One more thing make sure you find that snapped off bit before it causes and damage

Ive just checked the fiche and you cant get the shaft separately. Whole pump is part No. 49044-1089 £171.43 and in stock at Fowlers. Probably best to try Ebay

Are you talking about the impeller? If so Crank it with the cover off, shouldn't hurt it to start it for a couple seconds.
I couldn't turn my superduke one by hand so done what I said above and it spun Around fine.

Hi guys thanks for the help. Once the engine is back in the bike etc i`ll give that a try by cranking the engine over? Is it the oil pump that turns the water pump then?
