Possibly coming back to biking!!

Post by mattr6 »

Some of you may remember me, I went on a few rideouts in 2007/8 I think. I had a red/white R6 registration R6 WET.

That bike was sold to get together a house deposit. Girlfriend is now learning to drive so when she passes, I will hopefully get a bike to run all year (prob older zx6/r6/cbr6 about £2.5k)

Reason for posting is do insurance companys take past bike history in to account when quoting??

When I sold my last bike, I had about 6 years no claims. I havent owned a bike since so these no claims dont count now (been told thay last for 2 years).

Got some rough quotes online and they are not good!!

Any recomendations??

I might have it wrong, but I thought any NCB is only valid for two years.... :|

Nice to see you back though Matt, keep us updated

Nothings definate yet. Have to get girlfriend through driving test first then downsize current car before looking at buying a bike.

Jamiekenny, no thanks. I would like a CBR600RR but I may need to up the budget a bit!!

You might get better value swapping your car NCB to the bike and starting a new car policy in the partners name. Likewise some companies will take years experience on the other vehilces into account with the new policy ;)

if you go back to your old insurer you can explain why you havent had a bike for a couple of years and ask what deal they'll do considering your previous NCB. I got a years NCB discount deducted when I first went back to bikes. It definately helps to talk to a person though ;) .

Thanks badger. Thats probably what I will do. Currently being quoted about £360 comp on a cbr600rr. How does that sound?? (I cant remember what I was paying last time I ran a bike!!)

Oh how I wished I had brought an old heap when I brought the house to keep my no claims going!!

Just to update this, I am now back biking on an 05 CBR600RR (Blue one that was at North Cornwall motorcycles)

Trying to get my head around having a dirty bike as my last few bikes have been fair weather toys!!!

And to add, I found 2 insurers who would accept no claims discount of more then 2 years old. AXA and Aviva.

Try Thebikeinsurer before you buy your policy, probably the best comparison site for bikes :-bd

Good to see you back there matey! You got what you wanted too :-bd .

If you're interested I'm planning an evening pub meet towards the end of March, when its warmer and lighter evenings, it'll be at Victoria off the A30 so thats kinda mid way. Keep an eye on the meets section and I'll post up a few dates soon to find a convenient one ;) . Otherwise I'm out and about next weekend if you fancy it?

Cheers Badger.

Just to add, bike was making a lot of noise from chain/ sprocket area last week. Took it back to North Cornwall Motorcycles who fitted new chain and sprockets free of charge, no questions asked! Top customer service.

Got a few goodies coming for it first!!! Really shouldn't be spending much on it as its a daily, not a weekend toy.
