Almost there !

Post by Atomic »

On going saga of the rear shock is hopefully near it's end.
To cut a very long story short - wrong shock supplied ( was sold a 2009 one).
Sent my one for a re-furbishment. £173 later and no improvement.
Was costing too much to keep having it put in/ taken out, so I thought I should learn to do it myself.
First attempt 3 hours, now down to 30 minutes.

MacGyver - eat your heart out.

Anyway, the shock was then found to have leaked it's gas (apparently never been seen before and must have happened during manufacture), well whatever. The chaps then did major surgery and drilled and welded a Schrader valve to re-gas with nitrogen. They also fitted an Ohlins spring.

All now re-fitted. Just waiting for a dry day to give it a fair test.

Great to hear you've finally got to the bottom of it Tom! Had to be something along those lines given you'd investigated pretty much every other option  :)):

Dry day.....Sunday doesn't look bad? Android is doing a bimble!
If I have to explain, you'll NEVER understand

The 2009 shock was about an inch longer than the correct one which made an enormous difference to the bike (something that would have been known by you guys I'm sure), so much so that the side stand and the centre stand were of little use. A 2 year old could have rocked it over.
The ladder held the ratchet straps to bring the rear up, then I was using the jacks to move it into position for the new shock. It feels good, but it's been too wet to try it properly. Hopefully Monday is a drier day, I'm looking forward to it.

Managed to get a couple of hours out this morning (just a bit windy), - wow, the shock works !

The coccyx definitely notices the difference. Painted rumble strips are just that now and no longer like speed humps.

I think I have to re-lower the front forks a bit now, but will wait a while to get used to the new ride.

All in all - very pleased. :D

I'm loving the cunning use of a step ladder.
