ANPR does have a benefit for Jo Public...
To be honest, I've not displayed my disc on my bike for years, though have had it in my wallet most times, though not always. I think the Police have been able to tell from their ANPR equipment on the road.
When I did a bike safe day years ago, they did actually say that it would have to be a pretty upset police man, (sorry, could be a woman to) to book you for not displaying so long as you had the disc with you.

Where is this info re this ruling in October? DVLA website??

Think there are other changes afoot aswell, like you won't be able to sell your car/bike etc with any tax remaining. You won't be able to reclaim any part months and the new owner will have to buy a new tax disc from the beginning of the month so a win /win situation for our Government as usual. Don't know how you stand when you buy a vehicle halfway through a month regards taxing before driving it though. You will be able to pay monthly though for a small fee. No need to SORN yearly now (already in force), only if vehicle changes hands.

As scorcher said you won't be able to sell a vehicle with tax either.

Tax is becoming personal not vehicle related, as long as the online system is instant you can tax a vehicle when buying it though. Fingers crossed will work ok

I'm another one who keeps it safe - under the seat. Never had a problem either.
