Couldn't be more new

Hello! I'm Stacy and I couldn't be more new to bikes! I've always loved them but never had a biker in the family so decided I couldn't figure it all out on my own (being female. Lol). Now at 26 (27 in February) I've decided what the heck I'll give it a go! Im looking at booking my CBT at the end of this month and am going to look at a Honda Lead 100cc tomorrow. Know I should wait for after the CBT but it looks like a good deal and is close to home to go look at. I obviously can't take it on a test ride though with no CBT. I'm hoping to get all kitted up with helmet and gloves and leathers these next two weeks. I'm very excited and hope that in a year to trade up for a Honda C4 Shadow 125cc or something more bike and less scooter. If all goes well look into passing my full bikers test.

Hope none of that sounds stupid... like I said I'm 100% new to this with no one that knows bikes to help really. (Plus I'm typing on a new tablet so bad about typos!) Any and all help is very much welcomed! And hi!

Thanks! Not even sat on a bike since I was a child. However before I moved I grew up on a quad bike. Figure that gives me a little knowledge on gear changes and some on handling as the area I rode on was quite rough so I know a little. I like to think so anyways. I k ow its very different but it helps me to think I know a little at least! Lol

I would just agree with Moose, go see Dave. If you say he's near where you are looking at the bike/scooter I take it you are going to Dameralls? They will offer CBT too, but don't have the best reputation for their training or after sales back up, or that was the case a few years ago.

Anyway, good luck and as Si ( Billinom8ts) said, ask any questions you like, we've all been there and make a real effort here to remember that ;) !

ohhhhh! just looked at the honda msx 125cc! very nice! I'm starting at the Honda Lead to... well to be honest to spend less to make sure I get on with biking before spending loads. but if I take to biking as well as I think I will I'll be upgrading by the end of the summer I hope (though my hubby wants me to stick to the scooter for a year before upgrading to a 125cc.... we'll see about that ).

I'm heading out around 2 to go look at this bike. my husband use to be an engineer in the navy and does all his own work on his car so he knows his way around a motor though he has no bike experience other then a mini moto he plays around with. Is there anything I should be sure to check or to watch out for? we are gonna do a reg check and everything. anything with the Honda Lead 100cc that is known to be faulty?

the bike I'm looking at is in St. Austell. I live in little Torpoint. I was looking at A-SurePass for my CBT. I know someone that went there a couple years ago and said they were really good with people 100% new to everything and they looks good from their website and a fast chat on the phone. they also offer a free afternoon thing that before the CBT I can go in for a couple hours to meet the instructors and get a bit familiar with the bikes so my nerves aren't so bad the day of the CBT which I like. anyone have any input on useing them?

firstly, mopeds on the road are more dangerous than you think. underpowered, unstable and you will get no gear usage experience.

honda is a good start, very reliable and easy to work on.

check head bearings, chain and sprockets for too much play or wear on the teeth.

buying secondhand gear is not a problem, but don't buy a secondhand lid (helmet)

get a manual for your bike

Exciting times for you then!

I was brought up around bikes having a dad who was into them since he was a child and 2 older brothers so lucky I guess.

It's always great to hear of someone who wants to get into bikes, and IMHO there just aren't enough women who ride bikes of their own.

Next year il be getting my son who turns 16 through his CBT so that's another biker in the making.


I'm sure there is an utter wealth of knowledge on this forum so keep asking away.

I look forward to lots of pictures too when you finally decide on your first bike.

bought it today! and the guy threw in free delivery and even a free jacket for it! then my hubby bought my gloves and helmet for me today from the Kernow Bike Training ! I am set! here she is!

Ahhh ........ I was about to say that whilst I agree its never wise to spend too much on a first bike, I was also going to say that in all honesty you would be better looking at a proper bike from the outset - you would find it better handling, more stable, and it would prepare you for taking your test better. Something like a Yamaha YB100, Honda H100 or CG125, would be the best starting point ........ The small wheels, odd centre of gravity, and lack of anything between your knees ( ) can make for a wobblier ride.

I guess I'm a touch too late with that little nugget of information!

Either way, well done, and welcome to biking. I hope your training and first rides go smoothly

thanks for the info all the same though! I'm only planning on buzzing around my town on this for back and forth to work (only a mile and a half, small roads). Hubby has agreed I can go bigger by the end of the summer but this will get me through the winter to and from work in the rough weather (where walking is a half hour compared to a bike ride). and he says me riding on my scooter will go to show if I will be riding with it in the winter or if I'll decided biking isn't for me. plus I can't afford a bigger bike until mid spring where buying my scooter start of winter means I got a better price! lol so I plan to upgrade to a 125cc in a year then after riding that for a year when my CBT is nearly due take my test then. will be sure I'm into bikes properly by then and will have a year on a 125. don't know why but the Honda brand is really what I'm leaning towards with everything. lol

hi deej! I'm going with a-SurePass I booked today.

The guy in the shop that helped me find my gloves and helmet today was very helpful. silly but I'm happy to get a helmet to match my bike and it and the gloves are a great fit!
