Anybody else up for this Euro adventure. I stress that although we re going the Nurburgring, it is just one of many things to do and there are many routes and roads in the area to explore. So if you fancy a trip across the water on your steed, please get in touch to discuss what's involved or even better, just let me know and come along.

Don't care who you are, how much you have, how powerful you are. You still sit on the toilet with your pants around your ankles. Yep, it's a level playing field..

Re: SWB's Euro-Trip 2015
Just some info to put people off... haha. No, it's serious consideration, hence why doing laps of the ring is totally up to the individual.
Cost of crashing on the Nurburgring
These include Armco repairs, safety car attendance, vehicle recovery, track closure, hospital stays and helicopter fees. I recommend avoiding these. If you can't, then the following price-list may help:
Base fee for attendance of armco truck: €150
Removing damaged armco: €10/metre (x2 or x3 or x4 for multiple-height sections)
Replacement armco: €31/metre (x2 or x3 for double/triple height)
Removing damaged armco posts: €5.10 each
Replacing armco post: €39 each
Safety car attendance: €82 per 30 mins (car + 2 people)
Circuit closure: €1,350 per hour
Recovery truck: €250 (inc VAT)
Hospital stay & air ambulance: Let's just say, do NOT go there without travel insurance! (Though a European Health Card - which replaced the E111 - may cover the hospital bit.)
Everything except the recovery truck is then subject to 19% VAT.
I've copied and pasted this from nurburgring.org.uk if anybody wants a browse of what it's all about. This trip though is to visit the area, as there are loads of routes and rides to be had. Just visiting and watching the ring can be as much of an eye opener for some...

Re: SWB's Euro-Trip 2015
Lap times
I strongly recommend forgetting about lap-times. Trying to push for faster times is one of the most reliable ways of ending up in the armco. Think about whether an 'impressive' time is really worth the risk of destroying your vehicle, being seriously hurt or even killed. It happens. See my warning page for more on this. The whole point of the Ring is to enjoy yourself, so concentrate on having fun rather than going fast - your speed will rise naturally as you get more comfortable on the track.

Re: SWB's Euro-Trip 2015
I did the ring for the first time last year. It was awesome. From 2015 it is under new ownership, and those in the know are expecting some changes. The following was recently posted by a Ring instructor on ducatiforum.com ...
You will need to wait if you want to know if the track will be open on the dates you are going. I live out here and instruct on the Ring and even we don't know dates yet for opening beyond May. There is a new owner/operator for the track this year as the sale of the Ring finally took place. Also after May the existing price structure and access to the track could be totally different as there are things in the pipework. Again we have no idea whats happening. The track is not allways open as advertised but please keep an eye on this link to dates and times
http://www.nuerburgring.de/en/drives-fu ... leife.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
As for weeknight openings being more suited to novices, yes BUT this year there is strong talk out here that weekday opening may be cheaper than at weekends. If this happens then beware as weekday slots will be as busy as weekends currently are as the flipside is that they are possibly ramping prices up bigtime at weekends to try and reduce vehicle numbers on track. All speculative rumours but very likely to happen now it is privately owned.

Re: SWB's Euro-Trip 2015
Woop woop!!! I've booked my tunnel tickets to!!!!
Hotel is getting a little choka to, with 2 twin rooms and 5 singles booked so far.
Anybody else thinking of joining us, ask away. It's going to be mega!!!
Been out on my bike even, that's how keen I am
Just to re- cap 3rd to 7th Sept, trip to the Eifel Mountains region of Germany, where we will base our selves at a Hotel in the town of Cochem, for 4 nights.
Whilst there there are loads of awesome routes and roads to explore and the little matter of a track known as "The Nurburgring"!!!!! Which we will visit and if feeling brave enough, you might even do a lap or 2
Though this is not compulsary for anyone, just come along and join the thrill of taking your bike abroad.
Am budgeting no more than £700 for the entire trip, including beer tokens, insurances, tunnel crossing etc....
