Bike was pulling weirdly - Found solution!

Post by Esqy »

So, my Street Triple R had a really weird 'pull' to it - When straightening up after a corner, it pulled to the middle. It was a really odd sensation.
I tried a bit of google, but almost all of the posts were either that the bike had been dropped previously or under-inflated tyres. I did see something about uneven wear on the brakes (There are 2 on the front of the STR).

I had a bike mechanic mate look over it and then kicked myself!
My tyres are Dual Composite - Hard rubber in the centre, softer (Stickier) rubber on the edges. the softer bit wears out quicker than the centre, and the odd feeling was running over a ridge formed by the tread that slightly overhung from the hard to soft.

Mainly posting so it can help others :)

Have you checked the basics such as tyre inflation, remaining tread, rotation direction (they have been fitted backwards by some people), profile shape (squared-off?), and rear wheel alignment?

Hello there :D . Thanks for that bit of advice, simple but often overlooked.

As its your first post would you like to do a quick introduction in the Introductions Thread, its just a quick informal hello, who you are and where you are etc.

Thanks for joining our small community and welcome.

Tyre inflation - That was the 1st thing I checked, as It was a similar feeling to when my scooter had a flat, albeit a lot more subtle, The tread is getting a bit low, which I guess is the actual issue which results in them being 'Squared off'. It's only that I'd not experienced it before, so it may be a usual thing for a veteran riders.
The rotation direction would have been set by the dealer when I bought the bike(Its just under a year old). I'll get the alignment looked at when I replace the tyre, but I've not have any bad knocks or anything, so I wouldn't have thought it would have been an issue.

Well, we live and learn!
