Is this a sad basteward mileage record?

Post by tomr6 »

Took my baby for an MOT on Saturday.

I spent more hours working on this bike than any other I have ever owned.

Its a 5JJ model with tuned 4XV engine.

Trick suspension all round, uprated brakes, stunning rear sets and looks the dogs testicles.

It passed the MOT with no problems at all.

No surprise really as it has only covered 44 miles in the past year.

Given 9 miles of that was for MOTs and given a few miles to warm up the tyres etc it means I managed about 30 miles of grins.

My question is this, what is everyone elses mileage in between MOTs? And what was the lowest you ever managed on a fully functioning bike?

PS, I usually do about 8000 miles per year on a bike

I think I Did about 5 miles and that was to and from mot centre one year on my old bike, also my dad's bike is lucky if has done more than 100miles a year for the past 7 years

Did 12000 on two bikes last year. This year I've done 3300 on my Superduke since March.
Don't understand having bikes and not riding them. Can't keep off mine.
Poverty might slow the mileage this year though. 3300 miles on the KTM from new and I'm already at the end of my second rear tyre..

Have you noticed that anyone going slower than you is an idiot, and anyone going faster is a maniac ?

I had metzeler racetec K3 on the back of my 950SM last year. That was worn out by 750 miles. Hateful tyre anyway :)):

I once managed 10 years 1985-1995 with a CB750 in a crate. Once I got round to unpacking it (I won't be rushed) it turns out the carbs were horribly gunked up with stale petrol lacquer. Put a replacement set of clean used on, and a new battery - started no problem.

The MV has done 500 miles between MOTs this year.

It did 1500 miles in its first 8 years. 4000 in the last three .....

Funny you should say that. I bought an ultra low mileage Speed Triple about three years ago which had K3s fitted, I assume by the factory. They lasted about 200 miles before I took them off and threw them in the back of the garage.
Plain dangerous for general road riding. They really need tyre warmers to get them up to temperature and if you get stuck in traffic for a few minutes the cool off again and let go on the first bend when the pace picks up.
As far as I'm concerned they're a track tyre and have no place on a road bike.
