This not for every one to pass judgement.. just a timely reminder after a mate is now suffering broken collar bone, 5 ribs and a smashed up ankle, not to mention a written off Multi Strada. Thankfully that is all...
Roads were wet, we were enjoying it, I won't lie. The only explanation for what happened will have been a touch on the white line and boom, slidey slidey slidey.
Police road closures, Traffic cops attending, Ambulance cutting off all his riding gear. Ankle exposed through boots, Face covered in road crud, through a full face helmet... bla bla bla.
Oh, when I stopped and went over to a totally non responsive casualty, my mate, The longest 10/15 seconds of my life... genuine concussion, repeating the same questions 5 or 6 times every 20 miutes for nearly an hr. All the above put the shits in me. Thankfully nothing terminal but to see a slide like that on the road was horrible. Thankfully no other cars around at the time
Please please please... This could've been so much worse. All of us, way up the risks of how we all ride.
My mate is currently residing in Barnstaple hospital for a few days. No work, no pay...
All that damage was through all correct pucker riding gear to, boots, helmet, gloves, back protector...

Don't care who you are, how much you have, how powerful you are. You still sit on the toilet with your pants around your ankles. Yep, it's a level playing field..

It's sickening when it happens. He's in good hands now, and (as you say) lucky that a lorry not coming the other way.
I've had two myself. Demolished a reinforced concrete bus stop, bike written off, I walked away. Had a high side when a car did a u-turn in front of me, bike written off, I walked away.
Please tell me he was fully comp.

Have you noticed that anyone going slower than you is an idiot, and anyone going faster is a maniac ?

No idea if fully comp or not, would imagine so but it's definitely a write off... Main thing is they're alive and it's not terminal...MellowYellow wrote:It's sickening when it happens. He's in good hands now, and (as you say) lucky that a lorry not coming the other way.

Pushing the use of "friend" but certainly someone I chat to now and then was in Treliske over the weekend after similar level of injuries in Shortlanesend near Truro. Certainly seems to be a bad time and I know it has slowed me down (and I was already very steady when it's greasy like it is now). The farmers don't help. I know they are doing their job but add some mud to a road when I can't see much anyway...

Bets wishes and a speedy recovery to your mate Nick.
Its that time of year. First time out of the blocks in a long time, damp patches, and cold tarmac even though the weather feels warm
I went for a fairly spirited all Saturday afternoon and most of Sunday. Managed to find clean, dry roads but still damp in the shade and expecting to see gravel round every corner.
Happens so easily. Be careful everyone.

I must say I am a fair weather rider for this reason. In my mind it is just to risky in the wet.
That said accidents happen and I am sure it could also happen in the dry.
Just goes to show the importance of proper biking gear as how bad would he have been without it
I know who this person is as we are friend on Facebook even though we don't know each other well. Nick please let him know I hope he is felling better soon, have a speedy recovery and hope to see him again on a track day some time this year
