Life's a Bitch, then...

Post by MellowYellow »

Wottt a ******* week. Been in hospital, heavy rain water leak into top bedroom, bike stolen twice and....

Coming back from Clevedon yesterday, front brake came on full and locked when I just touched the lever as the car in front was slowing. Nearly did a somersault. Got off and directed traffic, and eventually it eased a little.

I only got 100 yds or so and it seized again. Of all the traffic only one stopped - a Uber driver who was foreign and a biker. A little later the rozzers arrived having seen me when they passed in the opposite direction.

They lent me a multi tool with which I cut my finger and removed the brake lever. I bashed the master cylinder a couple of times and the wheel loosened up. One PC49 put the blues on and tother pushed me (very gently as I had no brake) into the entrance to a lay by at Tickenhham. They watched me get dressed and start the bike (after replacing brake lever) then sloped off. I drove home without further incident.

Next ????

does not sound good Larry , hope its better next week , TBH I have not exactly had a good week either , Steve at Hedgehog motorcycles passing away , then a local freind living in a remote cottage found dead in his garden thursday he may have been there 2 days they think , and truck has been saying replace brake pads soon for a few days took it to dealer , they said it will be ok until friday when it comes for MOT , when i get there they reckon the pads are on their metal , but full maintenance contract , told them 3 times i was not happy about the situation , so if discs are [Censored] Volvo have the bill not us

Wholly cr@p! Sounds like a braking horror story on top of a testing week-did you get to the bottom of why it seized? How’d you get it back after being stolen twice?!

Brakes - mea culpa.

I'd been fiddling with the geomtry tying to get them to bite with the lever further from the bar. Overdid it obviously. Was fine for a few tens of miles but must have built up pressure in the system.

I haven't got the bike back. Was taken and hot-wired a few days ago but had no battery so they left it down the road. Second time they must have used a van.

After 10 days and a dozen or so 'phone calls (mainly to the emergency line) two chaps turned up with a lonnnnng ladder yesterday. They were not permitted on the roof (too high) but managed to unscrew the cap on the secret gutter.

There was an explosive outrush of water and debris. This gradually subsided to a half-tap flow for several minutes. Tens of gallons ran down the length of the street.

Scaffolding arriving today (allegedly) and a wet vacuum to dry the carpets in 3 rooms and 2 landings.

Going back to your brake issue and away from your water works.

I had something similar on the R1, everything fine but a few miles up the road, lock on.
Turned out that the new lever I had bought was just slightly wrong. It was applying a little pressure onto the m/c which in turn allowed the pads to just make contact, this got them hot and then it was clamp time. Rode home without a front brake lever which was weird, swapped it and all was good.
