Well went out shopping at Morrisons in Teignmouth today and was VERY impressed.
Marked out 2M spaces outside in a queue to get in the door and people were spacing.
I went wearing my motorbike crash helmet (better then a face mask as covers your eyes, nose and mouth) and a pair of gloves.
Also put my driving licence on a lanyard around my neck incase there was a problem with security and i needed to identify myself. No such issue they got what I was doing and were happy for me to proceed.
Managed to get everything food wise that I wanted (not going mad just a normal shop) with the exception of hand sanitizer
Most of the people in the store were spacing out but a couple of people still being stupid which made me even more happy was in the crash helmet.
The tills had screens to protect people serving and us and also were spaced so you could not have more then 2 people at any till one person putting stuff up and the next paying / loading at the other end.
Really well organised.

Who knew I would get so excited about doing a shopping trip and posting it on a motorbike forum.

Oh I would have paid money that see that!! You realise a face mask does very little for the uninfected, they're more to prevent the infected breathing over others? And that a helmet provides absolutely zero filtration? Wearing a colander would have offered as much protection ..... You'd have been better off wearing the gimp suit your missus keeps in the dungeon for you .....

The virus is transferred through very small particals coming from the nose or mouth for an infected person.
You catch the virus by the virus being passed into your eyes, nose or mouth. But this is not an air born virus. Somebody needs to either cough, spit or sneeze in your face. Hence why you are being told to stay 2M apart.

The issues that they have said is the partials are so small that they can get through a face mask if not the right one. However they have said that glasses offer good protection for your eyes.

In reality having solid plastic or an outer shell over your eyes, nose and mouth is a massive plus. Not to say that it will protect you completely but its going to offer a really great protection over wearing nothing.

All you need to do is look at health workers at the moment and they are covering eyes, nose and mouth. This is being done for a reason
There is also a clear reason why this message is not being told to the general public, if everybody decided they wanted to ware a face mask there would not be any left for health workers in the NHS who really need them.

So for me i will be wearing my crash helmet every time i leave my house. Will it 100% protect me.... no but I hope its 80% more protection then wearing nothing.

I agree about bike kit generally providing protection. The main reason being that most people don't get too close.
