Re: Week 5 down???
Week 5 and job 28 of 31 and expect them to be finished tomorrow before the weather changes.
I wanted to do an oil and filter change on the bike but need a warm engine and seeing as I’m not allowed it I guess that job is on hold.
I’ve been contemplating an bike colour change and feel I’ve pinned the colour down but it’s a pro job beyond what I can do so that will be after biking season so I can strip it down, after the season he says hoping we get to use some of it

Why not just start the engine and have a cup of tea? Still gets warm.

Why do you absolutely need a warm engine for the oil job? Just do it cold and be patient waiting for all the old oil to drain.
old and disgraceful so doing what I can while I can before I can't

I thought it was best to leave it over night dripping to ensure you get it all .if time and a garage permits you to be able to do this

Have you noticed that anyone going slower than you is an idiot, and anyone going faster is a maniac ?
Re: Week 5 down???
Depends how long the oil has been sitting since it's last run but I prefer to do it when I have literally just brought it back in from a short run.
My thinking is that more of the very fine solids will still be in suspension if the oil is dropped quickly after use, leave it overnight and they will have settled out again. I think the bike needs to have been ridden too to have properly got the oil moving around the casings in order to pick up as much of this as possible.
I normally have bottles of used engine oil around the garage (awaiting disposal) and after a while you can see a layer of crud that has settled out at the bottom.

I'm doing a job at the moment where you HAVE to take the sump off to do the oil filter change.
It does make a difference to be able to see what is left after draining.

Wow look at that, nice clean job indeed, bet that’s satisfying.
Yea I’ve always been the same, in the attempt to remove as much crud as possible.
That said this bike had an initial oil change 250 miles ago after my water incident, I wanted to do a final change with filter this time.
Overkill probably
