A set of photo’s from Wiscombe Park of the bikes and sidecars that competed on Sunday 23rd August as part of the Torbay MC hillclimb. These two and three wheeled competitors are competing for National Hill Climb Association (NHCA) honours.
Due to Covid19 restrictions, all Wiscombe Park events in 2020 are not open to spectators.
The NHCA event at Wiscombe has become the premier event for motorcycle hillclimbers with the first event being held in 1969. It was also around this time that the first National Championships were introduced.
For many years, two and three wheeled racers taking part in hillclimbing were governed by the National Sprint Association (NSA). As entries grew, and not all competitors wanted to enter both sprints and hillclimbs, the need for a separate governing body seemed beneficial. This led to the formation of the National Hill Climb Association (NHCA) in 1986.
The NHCA has continued to grow steadily with events held at all the major hills across the UK. It is in very fine health as can be seen by the number of entries at Wiscombe, and always very well supported.
Hopefully in 2021 the virus can be beaten and spectators allowed back in to Wiscombe Park.

Do you know if the NHCA are running their usual final event of the year at Hartland Quay this year?

Just found out the answer is a resounding - nope! The course is privately owned (by the Hotel I think), and due to the pandemic situation said owner has withdrawn permission for this year, hopefully it will be run as normal in 2021.

Hi Phil, yes, I think the Wiscombe Park events under very strict Motorsport UK guidelines are a rarity in the SW. Hopefully, we can have a full calendar of SW motorsport in 2021!

I believe they can't get a licence for Hartland because of public rights of way/access which make it impossible to control members of public & therefore numbers & social exclusion boundaries ....
Of all the things I have ever lost, I miss my mind the most .....

There's at least one ACU sanctioned motorcycle event in the southwest coming up. Grasstrack racing at Roche 20th September - I'll be there:Riviera Guy wrote: ↑Sep 3rd, '20, 18:18 Hi Phil, yes, I think the Wiscombe Park events under very strict Motorsport UK guidelines are a rarity in the SW.
