Car drivers trying to scare me. Bmws.

Post by wurzel58dog »

I've had 2 incidents recently of boyracer drivers in grey bmws (a 135i and the other a 335i) taking objection to being passed and pulling out into my path, then jinking back. First time was over a speed hump on the wsm seafront at about 20 mph. Second on the a46 dual carriage way where traffic was backed up in one lane approaching a roundabout to the m4 junction Bath. Feel like some response is needed. Anybody else had this?

Yeh, most of us will have had it happen.

Last one I remember was an older BMW too. He took great exception to being left for dead down a country road so he then came flying passed me in a 30 to prove a point.

The annoying ones try to block you from overtaking by speeding up & moving out, and in doing so they use up the narrow window when you could have over taken them safely.
I just blow them up with my imaginary front mounted cannon, one day I may be allow to have the real thing on my bike. :)):

The number of car drivers that manoeuvre or signal to let you past is far greater than the number of dickheads. Just like us bikers the complete knobs are a minority.

I agree with Herr Ptolemyx (for once :)): ), we see examples of exactly that from motorists on our rideouts, both the observant/considerate and the knobhead. More the former than the latter I'm happy to say. Sadly we also see the occasional Richard Head on a bike as well.

Let me start by saying that fully agree with the gents above and 99% of people on the road are courteous nice people. However the 1% is what you remember.

I also had an issue with BMW driver doing this. And it’s BLOODY dangerous. However was not when I was on the bike but was when I was driving in the car. Was driving down the road and had a van doing slow speed with the BMW behind him hanging back and leaving quite a gap. I knew the road and knew there were long straights with good overtaking points, it was very clear the BMW driver had no interest in any overtaking.
We got to a long straight and I decided I would overtake the BMW so I could overtake the van on the next straight.

She decided it would be much better as I was overtaking and on the other side of the road to floor it match my speed leaving me out on the other side of the road and beeping horns and waving fists. Being used to this terrible type of driving and having allowed enough space for the manoeuvre I just broke and slotted back in behind her. Although didn’t really phase me as I am used to this dangerous driving and kind of expect it from the idiots we have on the road these days but my wife was having a full melt down at what just happened.

In an interesting twist the BMW driver turned off 1 mile up the road.

Don’t forget the 2 wheeled BMW when I’m on the mortal high ground.

My 330d was a nice piece of kit. Still miss it 😢 I used to drive that like a bit of a duck come to think of it.

When the occasional odd driver does something I generally give a friendly wave (a nice friendly one as if I'm happy) once out of trouble. My thought being that it's their problem and maybe they'll feel a bit dumb as I scoot off up the road. I also smile although they can't see my face it makes me feel better and relaxed.

Good attitude Mike :-bd
When another road user does something stupid there's no need to respond in kind, that can easily snowball with dire consequences.

Well said that man and fully agree.

Also whilst on the subject I will say that over by time riding and driving I like to think that I am a shining beacon for attentive road awareness and courteous to other road users. That being said nobody is perfect and quire sure along the way somebody has gone home moaning about me at some point. But the point being its the exception rather then the norm.......

As a cyclist I get a different set of bad driving habits to deal with. Bmws don't really stick out, people still squirt their washers. Close passes are the main thing. Drivers know they can escape with speed, usually...
