My "repaired" gear lever not 56k friendly

Well lowered my sv today so no more embarassing low speeds drops (hopefully). Well getting a bit carried away with his bob the builder "can we fix it?" mood dad decides hes gonna bend my gear change lever straight with a hammer. i say "dont do that its alloy and it'll snap" he says its fine and goes hammering away. SNAP! OOPS! I was pretty annoyed as the biek was useable before that. One trip to halfords and ten mins in the garage and he knocks this up for me and declares it fixed..............

All you got to do now Lost ID is get it chromed and you'll have a custom cruiser. I hope Boss don't think thats a farmyard mod or he'll say your riding a tractor as well.

Once you have a new gear lever time to fork out on a new light plastic for me ;)

Next time get a bit of heat on it before trying to bend it back, Blow torch or weilding torch, U gotta be slow steady and patient to bend alloy!!!

But apart from that exelent bodge job!! takes me back to my 125 days!!

Heat would have helped a bit...but Japs don't make stuff out of pure alloy...You'll find it's a compisite material which is a pain in the ass to do anything to

One thing I learned the hard way with Jap bikes...and thats Don't be a cheepskate when it comes to parts...just put your hand in your wallet and pay for the right part

Think you'll find pure alloy would be a little too soft for the sort of abuse a gear lever gets, and as castings go, the Jap stuff ain't too bad.

Classic bodge though, and one I've had to resort to in the past.
Always helps if you know any nice friendly engineers who can repair it for you!!

Have you tried looking on ebay for a replacement lever... may save you a few quid! (couldn't find anything on there at the mo though )
