Re: Milage Tax
Its stupid, most people can barely afford tax and insurance as it is... and there putting more on us... cant wait till I get my vote
1 vote can make a difference, Tony Blair probably fancies a new house in the Caribbean..

Its fair enough, we pay a mileage tax at the moment, fuel, so in my opinion they can't have both, one is fcuking bad enough. labour are sickening, but people wouldn't replace them, so what can we do for 5 years.

Re: Milage Tax
Thing is, if you ride a bike you are already helping to ease congestion. Are these people living in the real world or what? Never mind what this would do to the transport industry.

P.s. It can be as low as 2p/mile. Which beats fuel, as that costs me at least 8p/mile as it is. We do live ina relatively rural area tbh.
And how long before the blackboxes could be removed and attached to a car battery in my garage? Thats all that will happen

Their demolising the petrol tax and road tax. But still my mum will be bankrupt, she travels to and from exeter every day, so 100miles + a day.
Fact...
Tony blair is looking to retire in 2009 and wants a house in some forgien place (was on tv cant remember name).
He needs 800k +, thats why he has been critised because the trips to the USA he makes, come inside all the conventions and public talks his wife is making to the public etc... At 30k a pop.
Bit of a w*nker anit he really, using tax money to make 30k+ each trip.

Re: Milage Tax
I used to install those "black boxes" and they are very unreliable. The signals are easily blocked, data is lost and the amount of manpower needed to interpret the data is huge. If one was fitted under the dash of a lorry, simply putting a clipboard or metal plate over the top could be enough to bugger it up. They also dont work very well in rural areas. The insurance industry was looking into using them to see what you as a rider/driver is actually getting up to, and can then increase your premium accordingly

Re: Milage Tax
To put things into perspective...........
It probably wont happen for at least 10 years.
If it did happen road tax and /or fuel duty would be scrapped.
I don't know if it applies to bikes, and they probably haven't even thought about bikes yet, but they'll probably be cheaper than cars.
The highest fees would be wherever the worst congestion is, so probably not too bad down here.
I'm not a supporter of it but until there are more details ( which there wont be for years) its hard to make an informed judgement.
Poilitians do this sort of thing a lot whereby they put an idea into the public domain just to see what reaction it gets. I wouldn't be too worried about it for a few years yet.
